2008 Calender - No Wrexham Challenger?

strange, how long had that one been running? i think there had been a uk challenger in that slot for a while.

maybe they are taking one up at an alternative time of the year.

would it have clashed with the DC? although dont see why they would drop it for that.

Count, I checked the calendars for the last few years and we have had a Challenger in the second week of the AO only since 2005.

Although I wasn't a huge fan of having a Challenger in the second week of a Slam (because the cuts are higher and the Juniors don't get to play), it appears as if it has been done away with, which I don't like. I remember Sheddie saying that Jersey would be getting a Challenger - maybe that'll be played in March and then Cardiff in April.

I hope that we'll have at least twenty 10Ks this time. I'm quite sick of seeing just Bloomers, Baker and Josh as direct entrants in Britain. Upgrading Surbiton to a 75K would be another good move.

OK we have the first 3 months schedule for UK events and looks as though there is a policy change here. Gone from 7 Futures and a challenger throughout the 3 months to 6 Futures played in 3 week blocks:

I think that it's too early to praise or rebuke this. If they are reducing the amount of tennis being played, it'll be a shame, but it's possible that we'll have more tennis later in the year, so it's okay.

Having some 10Ks instead of 15Ks is a good move.

Where did you get the calendar from?

ITF site and seach all tournaments (inc 2008 dates) - does not say on there whether they are 10 or 15K's

Yeah, I know. I am getting tournaments till 23rd Dec even if I search with 2008. I'll try from the other computer later on.

They must be 10Ks as you can only have Futures in blocks of 30K (like two 15Ks, one 10K and a 15K + H etc.).

Entry information for Futures till March and the one page calendar for 2008 are up.

Interesting that the first six GB Futures are all 10Ks, I wonder if they have dispensed with 15Ks altogether. What will all the French, etc, players do now?!
