Yeah, won 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 in her final qualies round match. Great rd1 draw ! Cazeaux is only ranked a few places higher and lost 6-3, 6-2 to British 17 year old Katharina Brown a few weeks ago on clay. Amanda has been in excellent form recently, making her first 10K semi in Finland in August
If Amanda wins, its probably 3rd seed in rd2 but she's ranked 450 and Amanda has beaten players like that before, especially on clay
Wow, what a round 1 win...that's quite amazing...don't see many double-bagels against top 1000 players at this level !
Next up for the 17 year old is Spanish 3rd seed Eva Fernandez-Brugues, ranked about 500 places higher at 460. She struggled past a wildcard in 3 sets earlier today but regularly reaches the latter stages of these events, making 3 finals in the past 12 months.
However judging by the scoreline it must have been a close affair. Amanda will soon be winning these matches and has progressed a lot this year. It's great to have a British girl who actually likes playing on clay and can win matches on it.
very promising stuff against a player ranked 500 places higher...it surely wont be long before Amanda makes her first final at this level. Just shows the benefits of training at those Spanish academies
I guess that Amanda, Katharina Brown and Naomi Broady are our top 1990 players
