Katharina Brown is a direct entry into this clay court event. Unfortunately she has drawn second seed and former top 50 player Claudine Schaul from Luxumbourg (who defeated Davenport in 2004 to take the tier III title in Strasbourg on clay). Schaul has had little success since then and is clearly not the player she was, however Brown will obviously have to be on top form to topple the Luxumburger.
