Montreal Masters QR1 Bogdanovic vs Stoppini

Stoppini is currently 308 with a high of 219. Boggo has been playing at a higher level than Stoppini ever has for ages now. Hopefully this will show thorugh, and Alex will be totally recovered from his injury.

If so I can see 8 handy points and a crack at the main draw.

For me its Boggo in two!

Boggo really has to be winning this kind of match if he is to make a move up the rankings, as this is definately a real chance to get some points and wins under his belt

Stoppini is a solid player, but he isn't much better than that, and hopefully all the experience Boggo has gained this year will allow him to get the win

Russell isn't the worst opponent in the final round he could have got, because he hasn't really done anything since he had his great start to the year, and he hasn't won back to back matches since March, and has had only 4 wins since then, and none of them have been over anyone ranked in the top 80.

Great chance for Boggo to qualify here if he plays well, and would be great to see him in a Masters Series event (and hopefully he will draw Polanski, and have an all British clash in round 2)

Good chance for Boggo as has been said.

Please would someone provide scores (they don't have to be point-by-point) as I'll be travelling whilst Boggo plays so won't be able to follow it. Hopefully I get home to good news. please.gif

Boggo is about to begin after Gulbis thrashed Zimonjic 2 and 2 (what a useful WC that was...)

Russell took the first set 64 against Amritaj, and will almost certainly win as he has had break points in a lot of his service games, while never being under pressure himself... and as I type this, he breaks again to go *21 up in the second

Russell is a double break up now... Lalo has lost the plot and has lost 6 games in a row to Duclos, Falla to serve for the match

Stoppini to serve - *0-1

*15-0
*30-0
*30-15
*40-15 - Ace

Boggo to serve - *1-1

*0-15
*15-15
*15-30 - not liking this start
*30-30
*30-40 - another point lost on 2nd serve
*Deuce - saved on 2nd serve - he needs to get the 1st serve % up - just 50%
*advan Stoppini - another 1st serve missed
*Deuce - got the 1st serve in
*advan Stoppini - another 2nd serve
*Deuce
*advan Stoppini
*Deuce
*advan Boggo - at last...
*game Boggo

Boggo leads 2-1*

Needs to get the 1st serve % up, just 55% at the moment and only 30% on second serve isn't good enough. Still, great hold there, saving 4 break points, and a couple off the second serve

Russell has MP...which is saved

Stoppini to serve *1-2

*15-0
*30-0 Ace

*game - Ace

2-2

Russell serves it out and wins 4 and 2

Somewhere in his last service game Boggo served an ace, but I didn't spot it

Boggo to serve - *2-2

*15-0
*15-15
*15-30
*15-40 - no 1st serves in this game... this is worrying for Boggo
*30-40
*deuce - 2 first serves... it's what he needs
*advan Boggo
*game Boggo

Boggo leads 3-2*

7/7 on break points saved so far... 1/9 on return points won... he's being outplayed but is just hanging on in there, and got 4 first serves in a row in from 15/40 down, which is what he needs to do... still, just 50% on first serve and needs to get that up

Stoppini to serve *2-3

*0-15
*15-15
*30-15 - Ace
*40-15
*game Stoppini

3-3

Stoppini is 100% on 2nd serve, Boggo just 40%

Boggo to serve - *3-3

*15-0
*15-15
*30-15 - Ace
*40-15
*40-30 - DF
*deuce - come on Boggo... fight back
*advan Stoppini - another 2nd serve
*Deuce - great save on 2nd serve - 8/8 now on BPs
*advan Boggo
*Deuce - DF...
*advan Boggo - Ace on 2nd serve!!!
*Game

Boggo leads 4-3*

Still only 50% first serves, but at least he is holding serve. Stoppini has had 8 break points, and hasn't taken any of them yet. But Boggo has won just 2 points on his serve, so doesn't really look like breaking

Might be able to get in 1 more game before I have to go... hopefully someone will take over the live scores/updates afterwards, and Boggo can get the job done

Duclos serving for the match against Lopez

Stoppini to serve - *3-4

*15-0
*30-0
*40-0
*game

4-4

And as that was so quick, I can get 1 more in

Boggo to serve - *4-4

*15-0
*30-0
*40-0
*game

Boggo leads 5-4*

Well that was nice and unexpected... hopefully he's settled into the match now, finding form on the serve and can get a few more points off Stoppini

And now I'm off... good luck Boggo, and hope you can win
