Frinton 10K 2007.

Very weak qualies field!

Unfortunately all our younger players are doing Juniors in Europe and Africa and hence can't take advantage of this field.

Glad Kat Baker qualied, great match player & very capable talent!! Glad to see her playing again. Watch out for Mona Barthel form Germany, she could cause a few shocks...big hitter & around 6ft tall.

Woohoo, Carly Homewood qualifies for the main draw and faces fellow qualifier German Mona Barthel. Good chance to make 2nd round

Wow, that qualies draw was weak jawdrop.gif

Great to see so many Brits in the main draw, hopefully they can dominate the latter stages. Sarah Borwell must be massive favourite for the title, good to see her dropping down to 10K, she really needs the points now she's outside the top 300 with those Wimby points dropping off.

Pick of the rd1 matches has to be Becky Llewellyn v Naomi Broady, that's a hard one to call. Going by last week's results I guess that Becky must be slight favourite, my guess is for her to come through in 3

Hopefully Jade Windley can get past Belgian 5th seed Davinia Lobbinger . Lobbinger is ranked over 400 places higher at 626, she made a 10K final at the end of June and a semi a couple of weeks ago but that was all on clay...never played before on grass I think so Jade must have a chance.

We should get two all-British quarters in the bottom half. Liz Thomas could be a threat to either Broady or Llewellyn given the results she had in Liverpool. Scarfi v Curtis could be a v interesting second round match.

Good chance for Julia Bone to recover some of those pts lost from Felixstowe last year, Balducci is the other seed in her half and the Italian is a clay-courter.

Some trivia:

Some trivia.

Valentina Fauviau who was in the qualies draw, used to be called Valentine Fauviau, and is the daughter of Christophe Fauviau, the notorious "tennis parent from hell". (He was jailed last year for causing the death of one of his son's opponents, by drugging him during a match.)

Valentina hasn't played any tournaments for nearly 2 years, and made her comeback last week in Felixstowe.

Do you think Armstrong has a chance of upsetting Sarah B, tennisbrain ?

I'm told that it was just the mens qualies played today, womens main draw starts tomorrow

well armstrong is leaving for a university in america soon (apparently in 1 month)so she has absolutely no pressure on her so could be possible but i think sarah will win.

13 of the 16 players in the 2nd round are Brits! Really good result for Windley. Hard to see anything other than Sarah Borwell winning this tournament comfortably really, which will be great because her ranking has slipped a little recently

Something has definately been in the air (or more likely, the local pasta) today going by these series of shock results !

Curtis bt Scarfi (6) 6-2, 6-1

Holly Richards bt Jade Windley 4-6, 6-4, 6-1....v surprised at this after Jade's superb rd1 win

Kirsty Woolley bt Julia Bone (7) 7-6(6), 3-6, 6-2

Liz Thomas (8) bt Lisa Sutton 6-3, 6-1

and the biggest shock result....

Samantha Murray bt Becky Llewellyn (2) 6-4, 6-0
