Hello all, new member to the site although I follow the forums, mostly to see how the brits do in challengers and futures etc, especially the hardy souls that attempt to carve a path over in Spain, Phillips, Ward etc (I see them as kindred spirits as you can guess from my username). I'm a keen tennis player, club team standard, but somehow have never been to Wimbledon, I never get lucky in the club ballot so am determined to book a day off work and queue up to get into the outside courts one day next week, what happens, can I just turn up and queue then buy a ticket on the door or do I have to book before? If so, how early would you guys advise I got there to see a full day's play? Rain permitting obv!
You just go and queue in the morning and buy a ticket on the door, get near Wimbledon and you can't fail to spot the queues. To see the outside courts you need to get there between about 7 and 8:30am.
Welcome to the board, feel free to post often and I look forward to reading your views.

same here as I'm a big fan of clay-court tennis so it's great to see some Brits doing well for once on the red stuff and grinding away in the European futures.
To queue, you don't have to book beforehand, you just turn up....the time at which you turn up, depends on what you're looking for.....be warned the queues are enormous during the first week so you have to get there early even for a ground pass, I went for the first time a few years ago and was staggered at the length !
If you want show court tickets...you're probably best to camp overnight, or get there at about 6am in the morning....for a ground pass, if you get there at around 7-7.30 am you should be ok and get in at around .
If you get there at about 8.30-9 (the gates open at 9.30 btw), the queue will be right down into the field and although you should be ok to actually still get a ground pass, you won't get in till around 12.30 and by then all of the seats for the outside courts will be packed so you'll spend a little while craning over someone's shoulder to watch the tennis before hopefully a seat becomes vacant somewhere
You're probably best advised to decide before you go, on which court you want to spend the day at...check the OOP the night before. When I first when I thought you'd be able to cruise from court to court (like at challengers and futures) depending on which players you want to see...but that isn't the case....because all of the courts get full up for most of the afternoon.....around 6pm, ppl start to leave and you can pretty much take your pick from the final matches on court
Also...you'll be queueing for several hours and when i went I was v surprised to find that you can't leave the queue to go to the toilet/get refreshments and then come back again to where you were in the queue, you'd have to rejoin the queue at the end again....there are lots of stewards around to make sure this happens
It's best to bring refreshments with you as everything at Wimbledon is incredibly expensive plus the queues are crazy....I went to try and get an ice-cream mid-afternoon and the queues were 30 deep at every kiosk !! At Southfields station there is a fantastic corner shop selling cheap value ice creams, chocolate digestives, pepsi extra value cola
Sounds quite daunting! Thanks for the help. I've heard rumours of being able to get into the show courts late on when people start leaving for the day, is this true?
yes, when people leave they are asked to leave their tickets which can then be purchased for £5 or so (have to queue for them mind - this is england after all) with proceed going to charity.

Sheddie, when my daughter and I queued a couple of years ago, we were given numbered queue tickets (3000 each queue, North and South, available) and we were able to leave the queue to go to the loo. For safety we didn't both leave at once though!
We're trying it again on the first Thursday. . . I am really getting too old for this lark . . . we don't get into Victoria until 6.20 so we are really only expecting to be on Aorangi Terrace. Henman Hill/Murray Mount that is.
Hi MrBaseliner, I am selling a centre court ticket for the first tuesday which is the 26th June, if your interested just private message me and we can arrange things from there.
