Oscar is really taking his time to get things together. His academy still seem to rate him pretty highly so there may still be hope, but I'm starting to get a little worried for him. To have so much backing and play as much as he does yet still not have a ranking point is very disappointing.

The now legendary Morgan Phillips qualified for a Futures for the first time when he was 18 (and he got double bagelled there by his current coach, Francisco Fogues). Morgan was past his 19th birthday by the time he got his first point and was three months short of his 21st birthday by the time he became a top 1000 regular.

As much as we love Morgan, I'm sure that none of us would have predicted big things from him back in 2003.

Well, Morgan hasn't really done big things till now, but it's common consent that he will be ranked much higher than where he is now in the years to come.

Actually it doesn't matter how old you are unless you have cracked the top 400 by the time you are 20 or something.
If you are ranked outside the top 1000 at that age, chances are that you won't crack the top 100 and to do it, things like the ability to grind on even when you aren't getting the results is probably more important than showing signs of progress or having time in your hands.

And speaking of the early days of Morgan, did anyone else know of this win -

And Morgan's a year younger than him!
