There's been a lot of confusion around the boards about Naomi's plans for this week....I'll try and clear things up from what Naomi told me last week.
Naomi says that whenever there's a British tournament going on, she always enters it even if she's planning to compete somewhere else so that if something goes wrong with arrangements for that trip (eg flights), she'll still be able to play a tournament that week. However, this time she made a mistake. She forgot to withdraw from Edinburgh so that when the lists were updated last week, she was still entered for two tournaments which isn't allowed. The ITF left her on the entry list where she was highest (which happened to be Edinburgh) and took her off the Florida entry list even though that was her priority 1 event.
Therefore she's had to go to Florida and just hope for the best this week, luckily she's been given a qualies wc
Speaking afterwards Naomi told britishtennis.net "It was a tricky match, conditions were very windy and she was pretty good. She was overall quite solid but could really go for her shots at times off her backhand. I really worked it to her forehand for most of the match and she didn't like it !"
Story Tweedie-Yates will be a bit of an unknown quantity as although Naomi's seen her around at tournaments, she's never watched her play. Tweedie-Yates is ranked 386 and before this tournament she was on a 6 match losing streak going back in January.
Naomi feels a bit hard done by atm as all the male "ball kids" over there are 50+ ! They had some teenage ones at the weekend but yesterday they were back at school
it is completely stupid. does she get any points for gettin this far. maybe a noami rankings thread if anyone has the time and understands the wta rankigs to do so? It is more complicated than the mens i think.
