What do we think of the wc selections here ? I think they're good except I would have given Amanda E one instead of Howlett, maybe they want to test her by making her qualify. Will be interesting to see how Laura Slater does here, she's one of GB's most promising juniors, probably our best 15 and U. She has a powerful game, big serve and forehand...tested Jane O'Donoghue is Jersey in March and pushed Anastasia Poltoratskaya all the way in Jan, only going down 7-5, 7-6(6).

I think we'll get 4 Brit qualifiers here, all from the bottom half. Looks v much like Elliott v Holly Richards in the final qualies round, could be interesting given that Richards made the British tour semis last week.

Michelle Farley is 15, this is her womens tour debut. Naomi should win, although it's on clay she struggled past a couple of opponents in British tour last week before going down to Berry. Can't see her qualifying though.

Could be some upsets in the 2nd section...the seed Pioppo is ranked 941 but Scarfi beat her 2 and 1 recently...could be a chance for Jess Jackson

Laura Slater our best 15&U? I think that the 'U' part should be removed as Tara is way better than all our 15 year olds.

I guess that Steph Cornish is our best 15 year old.

Sorry, typo from me...I meant that Laura is the best 15 year old. She's better than Cornish atm...has a bigger game - lot more weapons with her serve and forehand while Cornish plays more like a counter-puncher, using her speed to scramble well and frustrate opponents by retrieving. She has the ability to be more aggressive and needs to do that, Laura outhit her earlier this year. Cornish will improve a lot once she's finished her GCSEs this summer

I don't know how you can say that Laura is better. Steph beat Steiro last year and has achieved far more in Juniors than Laura, who didn't do much even in Africa.

Arka are you going by what I've said about game style at all confused.gif

Several reasons....Laura hammered Steph and Hannah James when they met in the Ariel U16 masters earlier this year.

LTA coaches think that Laura has the more developed game at the moment for the womens circuit which is the important thing...Nigel Sears thinks she'll make top 300 at least...she has some real weapons. Developing your game is just as important as getting results in juniors at 15, Steph has more work to do to develop her game for success on the womens circuit. However, she is also a v good prospect and the LTA think she'll improve a lot after her exams.

Remember Anastasia P who's ranked 400ish, hammered Fitzy last week and has been blitzing through futures fields this yr. Laura was within a few pts of getting a set off her in Jan, went down 7-5, 7-6(6), extremely impressive scoreline. I have no doubt she'd have beaten Steiro especially indoors.

Head to head doesn't make a player better or worse, though. Cox lost to Richardson and Evans lost to Pritchard at the Nationals last year.

What do head to heads have to do with it? Sheddie is talking about game styles

Cornish is one of Arka's fav players because of Dan Cox, John. He's biased for that reason I think.
It's frustrating because Arka doesn't look at game styles at all when saying whether one player is better than another but you have to...grrrr furious.gif Results don't give you the full picture when a player is only 15.

That's very unfair, David! I have been following Steph since her good show in Dubai last year.

And you haven't seen Steph or Laura play, so you shouldn't be speaking of styles...
