Good to see Rebecca dropping down to 10Ks though. She should win this rd1 qualies match, her opponent is ranked 837. Gonzalez-Bosch did beat Amanda Carreras 7-6, 6-3 earlier this year to qualify for the Mallorca 10K, her best tournament of 2007...she hasn't won a main draw match since last September though.
Maybe Amanda's training base is near this tournament. She won't have much chance against Panova though who will hit her off the court, she just rips it off forehand and backhand, hits v flat. I watched her play Anna Smith in Sutton, was a great match to watch, both players throwing the kitchen sink at each other, fighting fire with fire...both standing close to the baseline and hitting flat and hard into the corners. Panova came out worst in the 1st set but won in 3 as Smith couldn't keep it up
Ouch @ those qualifying scorelines Amanda's was very much expected though, she's only 5ft2 and at 16 she doesn't yet have the ability to compete with a power-player of Panova's quality. Amanda's very much a touch player, wonderful timing and movement and a great ability to mix things up but she's only 5ft2 and Panova would have hit her off the court especially with her thumping returns. Amanda's serve needs a lot of improving, the second serve is a weakness
Very disappointing result for Becky, I know this is on clay but that girl was almost 500 places lower. I guess that it's a confidence issue like with Mel South
main draw anne keothavong v ekatarina ivanova amanda keen v andrea petkovic
Amanda's played Petkovic once before, losing 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 on fast hard in Madrid last year. On clay, I don't think she'll be able to get revenge. Petkovic is ranked 175, close to her career best. She's reached four 25K semis this year and beat Mel South 7-6, 7-5 in Gran Canerias.
Ivanova has a similar ranking to Anne...about 160ish...should be v close. She's had good results on all surfaces this year...couple of 25K quarters indoors and a semi on clay two weeks ago. Amanda Keen beat her 2 and 2 last autumn
Hopefully things will look up in the next few weeks as they're competing in hard-court challengers. Amanda needs a good run soon as she reached a 25K final around this time last year
