I make this Boggo's 10th Challenger Final (W 6 L 3 of his first 9), but his first outside Europe - which I guess is what he said when I thought I heard him say it was his first outdoors!
Jun 2003 - RU at Surbiton
Jul 2004 - RU in Nottingham
Jul 2004 - WON in Manchester
Jul 2005 - WON in Nottingham
Nov 2005 - WON in Sunderland
Jan 2006 - WON in Wrexham
Feb 2006 - WON in Bergamo (ITA)
Oct 2006 - RU in Mons (BEL)
Nov 2006 - WON in Shrewsbury
Apr 2007 - ??? in Valencia (USA)

steven its both his 1st in the states and his 1st outdoors (non-grass), which is what i think he was getting at, i think its cause when you say outdoors you tend to think of hard, slower not grass.

Thanks, but I thought Bergamo was outdoors? I seem to remember pictures of him outdoors there and it says Hard (outdoors) on ITF. Then again, it says the same for Shrewsbury last November, and that definitely wasn't outdoors.

It's a big breakthrough for the Bogster, anyway.

That makes sense, even for Italy it was a bit too early in the year to be outdoors. Let's hope it turns out to be his first Challenger win outdoors and outside Europe too then.

I love how more people think Ken will forget to tell us the score than think Fleishman will win (or Boggo will win in 3 in fact). I have to confess to being one of them

for me, i think this has been a very encoruagng week from alex. win or lose today, and i hope its the former, i hope he can build on this, from what we can gather he seems to have been playing good tennis recently, but not getting the results.

however i think finding a way to be sussecful on hard courts is of paramount importanance to being succesful in the modern game, (unless you are spanish/ S.american where its clay) . a good hard game will also allow you to pick up results in clay. I think this is what we have seen from andy, his fast court results have been impressive, but i think thats built around his ability of an all round game on the hard courts.

i think alex could be a lot higher ranked if he had stuck with the indoor 25k challenegrs this year, but he has gone the harder route and should be given credit from the likes of lloyd etc for trying, rather than just saying, well he's still around WR 150 still so he is still useless. This is actually only alex's 2nd 50k event this year and we are in april (1st was talla last week).
i think he could be top 100 probably as i am sure he would have won a few of those challengers, but i dont think he would have been ready and got knocked straight back down.

this year he is obviusly trying to minimise his exposure to clay again, leaving time for a maximum of 2 events before RG (and he may decide he wants a break and only plays 1) but if his HC game is still oging weel, with a kind draw i think he could be in with a shot of making the RG MD too which would be nice.

Er - isn't California 8 hours behind? That would make it 9.30 not 8.30.

This matters: Sunday night is ironing night, I can rush to get it over by 9.30, I would be pushed for 8.30!

You're right Count. He's lower ranked than he could be at the moment if he'd stuck with challenger but now he's playing at a better and hopefully more consistent level. Should stand him in good stead in the long run

your right mad, i think it should be 9.30 (depending on how long the doubles takes). if you can check the board i am sure someone will post when it is about to start.
