When was the last time a Brit played a Challenger in South America?

Was it Andy with his qualifying attempts in La Serena and Santiago? confused.gif

must be, unless Mozart and the gang played futures qualies there. Brits usually tend to avoid South America like the plague

No, quite a few have played Futures. Blake in Colombia for example.

I want to know about Challengers.

Which is odd because nearly all of them played in South America when they were younger. confused.gif

Dyce will most probably play a lot in South America.

Thanks mkkreuk....Zabaleta must be big fav for this title after winning Houston, he'll be tough to beat. A big nemisis of Henman, think he beat Greg a number of times too. Saretta's also been a lot higher in the past and has caused a number of upsets on the clay. I see bad boy Koellerer is there, Jamie's played quite a few "Mr Nastys" in the past so I don't think Koellerer's behaviour would overly bother him, that sort of thing tends to fire him up more. Julio Silva's also pretty decent, better than 219, beat Andy Murray in 2005

Arks I know that Mozart and the gang have played lots of futures over there, just wondered if they might have entered challenger qualies one week, tis possible

Yes, indeed! Amadeus got a main draw wild card into the Cuenca Challenger in June 2005.

But on LTA squad trips there, not out of their own volition wink.gif It's like the squad trips to India in the past...these places have some of the toughest conditions in the world in which to play tennis, great experience for the juniors in learning how to win in adverse conditions and becoming physically and mentally tougher.

In South America....there's the intense heat (Colin Fleming told me about the trip he and Jamie Murray made to Ecuador for a challenger, it was just so incredibly hot on court, players were feeling lethargic and starting to struggle midway through the first set !  Basically, the players who did well were the most physically tough ones who tended to be the South Americans...you get lots of  "Nadal clones" out there), There's also the officials who are all highly biased towards home players..similar to what Slabba's having to contend with in Japan, and a nightmare in a close match. Also, (though this isn't always the case - Salinas in Ecuador has brilliant facilities) facilities are often, shall we say, not particularly salubrious.
