ATP Valencia - Doubles

B/M *2-6 B/W
B/M 3-6* B/W 3MPs remain

DAMN

GSM Behrend/Wassen 63 76(3)

Well they saved 6MPs but 7 was too far.

Frustrating.

On paper that was an easier match than their R1

But of course on paper is pretty misleading - that's why they play the matches.

Their chance came at 6-5 when they had 15-30 on the Wassen serve. A break there and I think they'd have won the champions tiebreak.

However, going by the scores, they were far from their best today cry Maybe they struggled in the slow conditions after all the rain there's been in Valencia.

Still, first tournament of 2007 on clay, actually Jamie's first ever ATP event on clay ! Knocking out the 5th seeds was a great win, shows that they can will be dangerous floaters to the big guns over the next 6 weeks.

Will they get into Monte Carlo ?

I remember Jamie saying over Davis Cup weekend he would be playing Monte Carlo with Andy because he can't make the cut with Booty

Nice guy, good player... confused Plus he has had to struggle a lot to get where he is.

Bad loss for Jamie and Eric. I thought that they would take this comfortably. But I guess that they'll do better as the clay season progresses.

I agree - they needed to break there again and take that set - as it was Wassen and Behrend had just enough time to recompose themselves for the tiebreak.

I don't believe they'll get into Monte Carlo - if I remember last year correctly the cut was pretty high because of singles players wanting extra matches to get used to the clay so they padded out the draw. I think Andy has said he will play doubles with Jamie next week if they don't get in. I guess the idea is that, while Jamie and Eric are still missing the cuts on these TMS events he will try and help get Jamie's ranking higher so he can "carry" Eric into these events with their combined ranking in the future. Or something. That's my theory. Hopefully before long Jamie and Eric will be top 30 and will make the cut anyway.

I should imagine the conditions were VERY slow and heavy today - it's been raining and not much above 16C out there. That must have made life harder.

Problem is that Fish isn't playing Monte Carlo, so Eric can't partner him. cry He'll need someone else.

unlucky stretch and booty - seems like they were barely in the match at all, so did well just to take it to a tie break in the 2nd set!

hope they can get a few results in the remaining clay court tournies, and i'm sure they will be seeded come wimbledon if so - which really would be an incredible achievement!

Speaking afterwards Jamie said "It was a pretty poor result, Booty didn't play his best match and I'm sure he'd admit that. We're glad to be getting out of there to be honest though, miserable weather all week. Now looking forward to Monte Carlo. 9 hour drive for booty tomoro as i can't drive...he's loving that one haha "
