Anna Fitzpatrick's 2nd tournament of her mini-tour to Greece, begins tomorrow with qualifying for the Patras 25K. Anna will be hoping that the strong winds which caused the players such problems in Athens last week, have died down and there are much calmer conditions in Patras.
She's seeded 11th and faces Lativan Alise Vaidere in the first qualifying round. Vaidere is ranked over 400 places lower at 1050 but she's been as high as 658 so will be no pushover. She qualified and then lost in rd1 in Athens last week and last month in Stockholm she qualified for the 25K, beating Anna's friend from the Monte Carlo academy, Ana Veselinovic in straight sets along the way.
Re Fitzy's results...she wasn't seeded to qualify but Boffa is only ranked 540 and is the sort of player Anna should be looking to beat. She obviously really struggled here to lose a set 6-0 against someone outside the top 1000
Brozda is ranked 446 and was beaten 3 and 2 by Fitzpatrick last week so Anne shouldn't have too much trouble with her.
Amanda's match is tougher, the Slovakian Tvaroskova is currently ranked 352 but is a clay-court specialist and has been as high as 231. She made the semis of the Athens 10K last week and beat a top 175 player in straights earlier this year.
Sarah's opponent is 17 and currently ranked 421. Wickmayer reached no 30 in the junior rankings last summer. Since then she's been concentrating entirely on the womens tour and won three 10Ks in the latter half of last year. Before this tournament she'd just played two matches in 2007, both first round losses in WTAs.
Hopefully Rebecca can get her first win since January. Apart from that 10K in Hull at the start of the year, last time she won a match was back in September. 19 year old Jessica Kirkland is a former Orange Bowl champ and junior no 15. She's ranked 287 and has been as high as 151. She's been going for tough tourneys so far this year with little success, best result so far is a 25K quarter-final in Florida.

Yeah the bottom half is quite weak, can't really see any dangerous floaters in there. Will be very disappointing if all 3 don't make the quarters and one should make the final.
