Match stats: It wasn't a match in which serve particularly dominated, 12 breaks in total ! Amanda won in the end because she took her chances, taking 7/8 bps while Martin only won 5/11.
Overall Amanda got 62% 1st serves in, Martin got 69%....Amanda's percentage dropped to 47% in set 2 which could explain why she got broken more times.
She won 53% pts on her 1st serve, 57% on her 2nd serve. Martin also won 53% pts on her first serve but it was the 2nd serve where she really got punished, only winning 33% points.
Chloe Babet is just turned 15 and unranked...junior ranking of 368 which is pretty good for her age. She's just played 2 womens tournaments before, in January, losing in straights in rd1 qualies both times.
Amanda already has a point for qualifying, good chance to get another here
Rd1: A Carreras (GB) bt C Babet (Fra)(wc) 6-2, 6-4
Great win for Amanda, it was another match with lots of breaks. Amanda took 7 of her 13 chances, Babet coverted 4/8.
Amanda got 71% 1st serves in which is impressive as she's only 5ft2. Neither player found things easy on their serve, Amanda won only 57% pts on her 1st serve and Babet won just 41%. Both also really struggled on their 2nd serve, 40% pts won for Amanda and just 32% for Babet.
Schoeffel is only ranked 888 but her form over the past few weeks has been impressive. She qualified and made the quarters in the Jersey 10K before losing to Jane O'Donoghue 6-1, 7-5. In rd1 here she knocked out the 6th seed 7-5, 7-5 though she did benefit from her opponent only being able to convert 2/12 bp chances.
Rd2: S Schoeffel (Fra) bt A Carreras (GB) 6-1, 4-6, 6-1
Amanda wasn't helped by 6 double faults but she did get 64% 1st serves in compared to just 49% from Schoeffel. Amanda took 3 of her 7 bps but and those 3 breaks came in the 2nd set. She was simply unable to win enough points on her serve, just under 50% on her 1st serve and just 33% on her 2nd serve. Schoeffel had 12 bps in the match and took 7. She won a reasonable 62% 1st serve pts and 60% 2nd serve pts.
However, still been a good week for Amanda, her first world ranking and she's had 4 really good wins. At just 16 she's been qualifying for these 10Ks on clay regularly this year.
