QR2: (q5) Edward Seator WR 1096 beat Ciaran Moore (AUS) UNR by 6-3 7-6(2)

R1: (Q) Edward Seator WR 1096 v (3) Komlavi Loglo (TOG) WR 401

Nice to see Edward qualify here, but his R1 draw means that a ranking point is very unlikely.

R1 will be played on Monday.

Any chance that our African correspondent will report from there this week?

Or is he yet to reach there?

If Canas can beat Federer, then Seator can beat the African Federer, Loglo!

Of course I'm here!
I wouldn't miss Ghana F1 if my legs had been eaten by alligators!
We have a fascinating tournament ahead of us.  I'm slobbering with anticipation.

Three of the Big 4 are here. (as the media are now calling them now).
 - the majestic Togoan, Komlavi Loglo (2006 Senegal F1 champion)
 - Ghanaian tennis God - Henry Adjei-Darko (2005 Senegal F1 champion)
 - & Big Bogdan "Victor" Leonte (2005 Sudan F1 champion)
Unfortunately, Professor Vejmelka has disappeared since his Iranian victories last November(circumstances unknown)

Oh, and of course the huge Romanian invasion of tennis continues, following on from "Aardvark Botherer" Bogdan Leonte's triumph in Sudan in 2005.  As they say, "Success breeds success".  Though Bogdan tends to mutter, "where on Earth did all those babies aardvarks come from."

Other news comes from big-serving Preg Rusevski, the 6th seed, competing for Macedonia for the first time since defecting from his native Alaska.  Preg has been seen parading up and down Accra high street for hour upon hour, draped in a Macedonian flag, declaring his love for Alexander The Great.  The Alaskan community here is furious.

Right, I'm off to the beach now - Bogdan has promised to push my wheelchair - bloody alligators.

Is Fereder a good prospect then?  Can't see Loglo losing myself.  It's daft how he is only seeded no.3.  It's because the top two seeds, the Romanians Cracuin & Moraru, play mostly in the Mickey Mouse tournaments in Europe, gaining ranking points galore by playing Belgian postmen and Albanian taxi-drivers.

Not much tennis action yesterday.
Lovely beach though.  Saw a West Saharan Sandpiper, beautiful plummage, er... but I digress.
The big names are in action later today.

The anticipation for the match between the Ghanaian No.1 and 2, Adjei-Darko vs Mohammed, is intense.
20 year old Mohammed has a massive point to prove having had his GTA funding withdrawn last year due to his "lack of commitment".  And of course after the infamous incident when Ghanaian Davis Cup captain, Njoh Ydoll, started lobbing bat droppings at poor Mohammed after he dropped the first set vs Phenyo Matong in the vital Ghana-Botswana DC tie.

Ydoll later dropped him from the team questioning his desire for the game.  "Didn't he get the droppings hint!!", raged an obviously crazy Ydoll.

I, for one, would love a Mohammed resurgence on this Ghanaian Day Of Judgement.

Bring it on!

Result of the week!

R1: (Q) Edward Seator WR 1096 beat (3) Komlavi Loglo (TOG) WR 401 by 7-6(5) 2-6 6-1

R2: (Q) Edward Seator WR 1096 v Franck Dalla-Santa (FRA) WR 1525

Nice to see Edward qualify here and he followed it up with a stunning win against one of the best players in West Africa ranked nearly 700 placed above him!

Edward will play his R2 match on Wednesday. Dalla-Santa also shocked a top 700 player in R1.

Seator ends Loglo winning streak

Komlavi Loglo's 0-match unbeaten run is over after he suffered a shock 7-6(5) 2-6 6-1 first-round loss to Edward Seator at Ghana F1.

The Togoan number one, whose winning streak stretched right back to Nigeria F1 last week, looked sluggish throughout but refused to blame the pressure of the unbeaten run for his performance.

"It just shows you how tough it is. It was just a grind for me from the start. It had to happen so it's OK," he said.  Later adding, "Least I won't be presented with another damn hippo.  I'm off to the beach. Have you seen the West Saharan Sandpiper?  Glorious plummage."

Westerhof falls at first hurdle

Tennis's favourite transvestite (& 8th seed), Boy Westerhof, also suffered a shock first round defeat. Though his new dreadlocked look wowed his expectant spectators, no amount of lipgloss or blusher could hide his dreadful tennis - he lost to a French postman called Eric.

Some speculation has circulated regarding Boy's recreational drug use, attributing that to his downfall.  I wish to make no comment.

Post-match, Boy stated that, "All war is stupid", though quite why is still unclear.

Ydoll wants Ofuri for Davis Cup

Njoh Ydoll, Ghana's Davis Cup captain, flew out to Mauritius yesterday to visit Franklin Ofuri at his luxurious home.  Ydoll is hoping to coax Ofuri (the Ghana F1 champion in 1969, 72 & 74) back into Davis Cup action.  Although Ofuri announced his retirement from the Davis Cup tennis in 1978, to concentrate on improving his faltering ranking, he has recently indicated that his decision was never a finality.

Ofuri, currently suffering from German Measles, also has a re-occuring attack of senility, but has assured the press he'll be fit for Abysinia F1 in April.

Ydoll pronounced on Sunday, "I don't even mind if we do lose to the Congo and get relegated, so long as our young players have gained greatly from the experience."

Some people have labelled Ydoll an incompetent dunderhead.  I don't wish to comment.

Bogdan's bizarre defeat

Big Bogdan "Victor" Leonte crashed out in the first round in a freakish 7-6(5) 6-7(4) 6-6 ret.

defeat.

Standing at match point, there was a dreadful line-call against Bogdan, and in a fit of rage and confusion, he threw his false leg to the floor, cracking it into two.  He played on, on one leg, serving an incredible 119mph ace on the way.  But sadly had to retire before the start of the final tie-break.

After the match, Bogdan quickly welded his leg back together (needed due to an old aardvark injury) before his doubles match started, which he then went on to win easily with his partner Singh, 6-1 6-4 vs Gert Briton & Ghana's Law & Hayford.

The Ghanaian Day Of Judgement

Henry Adjei-Darko and Salifu Mohammed fought in the most eagerly anticipated match of the decade.  And it didn't disappoint.

The extreme pressure obviously affected Mohammed in set 1, losing 6-0, but then the match really took off Mohammed taking the next incredibly tight set in a tie-break.

Henry, supported by his brother Quincy "Turkey Legs" Adjei-Darko, had to dig deep, but his experience eventually shone through claiming victory 6-0 6-7 6-4.

Ydoll had to be restrained by security for attempted to fire elephant poo at Mohammed.  He is now being held by the Accraian authorities.
