Podlewski heads to Sutton

Oscar Podlewski, one of Britain's top juniors, is heading to the Sutton academy for the next 10 weeks. Podlewski is based at the prestigious Monte Carlo academy and the head coach there, David Sammel, believes that he needs to build more experience in match-play situations.

Sammel said "Oscar has the work ethic and undoubted potential but he is short of match toughness and we hope that by playing many practice matches with the large group of players at Sutton he will gain the confidence to progress in tournaments at a level we expect from a player of his calibre,"

“Our goal at the MCTA is for players to reach the top 100 in the world and we will explore every avenue in order to help our players achieve this.”

He isn't one of our top Juniors now - he's 1988 born.

Hope this will help him. It's incredibly tough to crack the top 100 unless you were a top Junior, but hard work and proper coaching can help you achieve everything.

Just realised that the Jez Green who works for MCTA is the one who used to work with Bloomers once upon a time.

Thanks also to the LTA for their support and a special thanks to coaches past and present especially - Pete Russell, Darcy Cumming, Jez Green and Ron Allan

Hmmm, there are quite a lot of top 100 guys who weren't top juniors..it's not a prequisite in order to reach the top. For some players, success in the junior circuit actually holds them back as they play mostly junior events at 17-18 rather than grinding it on the futures circuit and getting some points.

Oscar's results so far don't really suggest he's a top 100 player of the future...he's had a couple of wins against top 1000 guys and is certainly not outclassed at all by players in the 700-900 rating range but nothing really stands out at the moment to suggest he could crack top 300 or higher. Hopefully he can work his way up slowly like Morgan. I'd like to see him go for some weaker futures for a bit to give himself a chance of getting some points, at the moment all his tournaments are in Spain or Portugal or Italy where he has to come through a really tough qualies draw (sometimes 128 player and sometimes with players ranked in the 500s and 600s) and then win a rd1 match to get a point !!

A highly controversial statement regarding the future of clay tennis.

As in, how Mr. Phillips is the man to end Nadal's domination...

What's the actual translation Arka? I've got 'Morgan you're a star' but can't get the second half.

It doesn't mean that.

It roughly translates into "Morgan is my name. I am the Orc's bane". Lifted from the inscription on Sting...

Is that elvish tongue ?

Sting is Frodo's sword from LOTR I guess ?

Podlewski seems to be a big waste of MCTA's time and money to be honest...

I obviously know less elvish than I thought.

Does that mean Morgan glows blue whenever Orcs (or Spanish clay-courters) are near?

Maybe. But it'll make more sense if his racquet starts glowing.

I don't know much Elvish either, by the way! I had to look this one up.

I don't think so. There can't be too many players who concentrated on Juniors full time, didn't crack the top 50 and then got to the top 100 in men's. Maybe five players at this moment at the very best.

Oscar was never a top ranked GB junior in  the ITF rankings. Don't think he got higher than 600. However he does have talent but it doesn't seem to be happening if you look at his ITF Future's results.
