It's great news that he has taken a wild card for Las Vegas event. It wouldn't be easy to play Indian Wells as a first tournament after four months pause. Dubai is quite long-distance from California and conditions are different. LV is played on the same surface and there is also a round-robin format (at least two matches for Tim) and he has a chance to be seeded. I think Timmy can't wait to compete again. The desert should suit his game. Come on Tim!!!
Yeah, apart from the top 4 he can definately beat anyone in this field so it's a good opportunity for Tim to get some match sharpness back into his game. Conditions in Vegas are similar to those in Indian Wells, where Tim has an excellent record, so he should have a good chance fo doing well. I think he'd be disappointed not to reach the quarters here.
Tim used to play the ATP event in Scottsdale as a warm-up for Indian Wells, that always worked well, I think he made the final there at least once.
Henman ready to try his luck in Las Vegas21/2/07 6:55 AM
British number two Tim Henman is heading to Las Vegas in the hope that he will finally be able to get his 2007 season underway in The Tennis Channel Open, which starts on Sunday February 25.
Henman has been sidelined all year with a knee injury he picked up in this last match of 2006 and more recently flu.
But after managing to finally shake off the virus he is ready to try his luck in the gambling capital of the world.
“This year has been a bit of a nightmare so far,” explained Henman.
“The last thing I wanted to do was to keep pulling out of events but I’ve got to consider my health first and there’s absolutely no point in me trying to compete if I’m not ready physically.
“But I’m over the flu now and by the time the tournament starts I’ll be as ready as I’m going to be.
“Obviously I’m short on match play so the fact that it’s a round robin will help as it guarantees me matches.
“The big tests will obviously be the Masters Series events in Indian Wells and Miami, and the conditions in Vegas should stand me in good stead for those.
“It’s been a relatively long time since I last played a match so my expectation level is realistic, but that doesn’t mean that my desire to win is the slightest bit diminished.
“My intension was to play a full schedule this year and hopefully I can make up for lost time starting next week.”

The tournament fact sheet says Friday, time to be decided.
It is still only just after 8 am in Vegas, so I suppose it will be a few hours yet. And being RR, I don't know if they will release the main draw at the same time as the elimination round, but I expect so - the other RR tournaments have.
Has everybody got their calculators, slide rules and log tables ready, to work out who goes to the top of each group?
