Good luck to him, although I'm not sure wht he is playing Challenger qualies when he could have directly played in the Exmouth futures

Tough draw for him, as to get in the main draw he would have to get past Zverev, who will definately be top 100 by the end of the year

Maybe Childs feels that competing at a higher level tends to inspire him and so he produces his best tennis ?  That would seem to be the case from looking at his results....he nearly beat Dick Norman indoors last autumn and then in GB futures he loses to Andy Kennaugh !

As Forever Delayed says, I can't see him qualifying but he's got a good chance of winning a couple of matches.  He shouldn't have any problems against Guillaume (dunno how he managed to get a wildcard !) who's 32 and only has 1 ranking point though he made the top 1000 back in 2000. Maybe he bought the wildcard ?

Geez! It's a bit unfair to say that someone bought a WC unless there is proof. More likely that he is some local person.
Most WCs have a reason, even apparently baffling ones like David Guez at Marseille or Somdev Dev Varman at Washington last year.

Is this the most shocking GB loss of the year so far?

QR1: Lee Childs WR 427 lost to (WC) Nicolas Guillaume (FRA) WR 1535 by 4-6 6-3 6-2

R1: Richard Bloomfield WR 187 v (3) Alexander Peya (AUT) WR 105

A nasty draw for Bloomers - Peya has had a very good start to the year as evidenced by the fact that he is 44= in the ATP Race.

His last three matches against Brits were straight sets wins against Aucks, Big Arv and Boggo. More to the point, he beat Seppi, Soderling and Llodra in Zagreb ATP a couple of weeks ago.

Nasty Draw, I guess we can't really expect Bloomers to beat Peya. I hope he can at least take him to three sets though.

What's the website like? Dare I ask if live scores will be provided?

  Very true !

Absolute shocker for Childs   What on earth happened in that match !  These local players can be tricky sometimes as they know the courts well but even so, Guillaume has hardly played on the pro tour and hasn't been in the top 1000 since 2000, he's now 32. Not been a particularly auspicious start to the year for Childs, hasn't won a match yet !...I wonder if he'll follow Delgado and decide that his best chance of making the breakthrough and playing on the ATP and challenger circuit might come through doubles ?

Like Arka, I've been puzzled for a long time why Childs hasn't played more doubles. After all he was the world junior no 1 in doubles and won a slam !
