Jagdev Sagoo.

Who is this guy?
According to John he stopped playing tennis at 15 because of injuries and is now 19 years of age.

John brought his Junior record record to my attention and it's ruddy unbelievable for someone aged 14!

I'd receive one of the biggest shocks of my life if a 14 year old with those results didn't go on to play Tour tennis. Sadly it's very tough to return from injuries that are this serious.

He beat top seed John McGahon 0 and 1 in the British Tour event in Corby today. Maybe it's the start of big things for him?

Yeah, it was the tournament director who told me that he has been out injured. He agreed with me that if he stays fit, the ranking points will come easily. Big if though for someone who has spent 4 years on sidelines. He was very very good today, hard to believe the guy he was playing had a world ranking. Had him on the back foot every point, firing powerful strokes right into the corners and banging winners away with ease.

Never heard of him.....google gives a couple of hits....he was just below Any Murray in the U18 section of the 2002 sunday telegraph/centre parcs junior grand prix.

Also in this LTA pdf file it lists Jagdev with a junior world ranking of 195, Murray was 49 and David Brewer ranked 22 at the time.

Thanks for those! I'll go deep into Google in the next few days.

The funny thing is that he was more impressive than Andy when he retired.

The order of play for tomorrow had the quarter finals startng at 9.30am and 11am. The semis start at 1.30pm although he said it may be later because  if games go to 3 sets they are allowed 90 minutes to recover. I finish work at 1.30, probably get there about 2pm so should see the semis.

If he wins his quarter final, I am 99% likely to see at least a part of his game tomorrow.

His last appearence at a British Tour event was earlier this year in the first week of January.

He beat Flanagan 61 63! He had to withdraw from his semifinal.

If he can beat a player ranked 660 by 1 and 3, I'm pretty sure that he can get a world ranking very soon. Hope he has a WC into Exmouth.

By the looks of his results he seems to be a very good player, and hopefully he will start to make a move up the rankings

If he has got a WC, then I'll go and have a look at him while I'm there, but I;m guessing the WC's have gone to Morgan and Flanagan, possibly Kasiri if he is in the UK, but he may have got the 4th one... or one of the juniors who wasnt in qualifying

Most of the Juniors who are worth giving a WC are on tour. Unless they are giving a shock wild card to someone like James Chaudry...

Miotto was given a WC this week because of his win in the previous Tour event, so my guess is that the fourth one will go to Llewellyn or Sagoo, depending on who wins in Corby today.

Interesting guy! Should win the tour event. Corby to Exmouth is a long car journey! More likely WC for Rushby or someone like that...

So he didn't disappoint when he was finally given the opportunity. A ranking point from your Futures debut is excellent.

This is his record against ranked players from the recent past:

Ian Flanagan [660] - W - 61 63.
John McGahon [1279] - W - 60 61.
Edward Allinson [1525] - W - 76 46 63.
Gary Lugassy [290] - L - 26 36.

When he retired, he was surely one of the top Juniors in the world. His ranking takes him to third in the world amongst today's 14 year olds. Meaning that he was due to be world number three once the older players were removed. He had beaten both Kennaugh and Jamie Murray, who were both decent prospects for British tennis.

I wonder if there is a way to contact this guy to find something more about his intentions. Doubt that the LTA will want to help, but it won't hurt me much if I sent them an email.
