Sarah Borwell was on the qualifying list for this challenger but due to reaching the quarters in Palm Desert she won't make the qualies sign-in even if she loses to Julie Ditty.
Hopefully she beats Ditty in the quarters of Palm Desert and then she can get an SE into the main draw here I think ?
I made a mistake with my above post. Didn't realise that the Midland qualies don't start till tomorrow. Sign-in is tonight so Sarah can make it if she wants.
She's currently 3rd on the alts list so has an outside chance of making the main draw directly.
Ok Radek ok, you can stop worrying now. Your fiancee hasn't gone and got a sex change and become Martin Hingis. Arka just didn't realise that female players get an ITF profile in the mens section if they've played mixed doubles.
Seriously though Arka, thanks for that above link to get info on the female players
She's the top seed and plays Aussie Nicole Kriz in rd1. Kriz is ranked 352, can't find anymore info due to the ITF player page problems.
There are 3 qualifying rounds. She's seeded to meet 7th seeded Argentinian Bettina Jozami in the final round, she beat Jozami last week in Palm Desert
If Sarah isn't at her best Kriz could cause a few problems, looking at her results. Her best tournament of 2006 was the Mount Gambier 25K where she qualified and made the quarters. She beat Mel South in 3 sets before getting crushed 2 and 2 by Georgie Stoop. Before Friday, I believe that was the last time England crushed Australia......those were the days
Sarah's through to the final qualies round. She beat Kriz 6-1, 7-6 in rd1 and then beat American wildcard Hillary Barte earlier today 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.
She plays Belarus' Olga Govortsova for a place in the main draw. Govortsova is ranked 321, she knocked 7th seed Bettina Jozami today, 6-3, 6-1. Her best result so far this year, is qualifying and then reaching rd2 in the Tampa 25K.
She plays Kristina Brandi of Puerto Rico in the first round.
She turned 14 eight days ago. I really thought that she would be playing the 10K in Portugal... Sharapova got a WC into a 75K a few days after the 14th birthday, but that was held in Bradenton itself.
Yeah, Larcher de Brito has been training at IMG since she was nine or something. I'm surprised that she didn't take up an American citizenship. Both her brothers are now American.
I don't think that 14 year olds can beat top 200 players, but who knows...
