Christ! That was a beast of a match. Borwell will be shattered for the next round.

Comments from Sarah B after R1 win

A quote from Sarah on GBgirls

The tournaments here are so strong, every match seems to last for 3 hours. Mine today was a lovely 3 and a half, in 90 degrees and no breeze. I shouldnt really complain as I am sure it is freezing back there! It was the most enjoyable and rewarding match I have played since my marathon match at the US Open, thoroughly enjoyed it and jumped over a few hurdles, which have been holding me back for a long time. My new motto. If your backhand hits the fence, don't worry, just keep slappingSeems to work well.

Sarah's R2 opponent is Mervana Jugic-Salkic from Bosnia Herzegovina.

She is 26, ranked 305 peaking at 99 in 2004.

She has lost 5 of her last 7 matches, which have been played sporadically since Wimbledon qualifying last year.

I reckon Sarah has a good chance here if the conditions and injuries don't hamper her!

She's on first! 10am in Hawaii! Wonder if she's got LOST, chased by black smoke, lived in a shelter, punched some numbers into a computer repeatedly or seen any falling planes!

Brilliant rd1 win for Sarah, that was a super result. As she says these US tournaments are so strong. She's playing two or three more before returning to Europe.

Shame about the rd2 result but I think that dire scheduling from the organisers probably played a big part in that, Sarah must have gone on court feeling knackered. Also her opponent is a former top 100 player and will still have some of that class.

Hopefully Sarah can get another win in Palm Springs this coming week
