Waikoloa Challenger 2007

Jamie Baker is 2nd seed in qualifiers here and receives a first round bye (such a week qualifying draw for a challenger - 8th seed is ranked 905 in the world - wow, and there are 8 places in the draw taken by byes - surely a decent opportunity for some of the middle ranked Brits to have won easy points).

QR1:

bye

QR2:

Plays the winner of Malino Oda (USA) UNR v Jim Thomas (USA) UNR (but no 33 in doubles)

QR3:

Potentially plays the 7th seed, Chris Wettengel (USA) WR 708

I've been impressed with Jamie Bakers start to this season. His season last yeatr seemed to fizzle out very early. But some great results to start this year have reignited my interest!

Seemed a routine win over Thomas!

I'm fairly confident he'll have too much for Wettengel in his current form!

qualfiers have been drawn against Paul Goldstein, Brian Wilson, Scott oudesma and Brendan Evans (WC). Lets hope he can qualify and get Evans!!!!!

I wonder if they'll make the dubs draw together...

Jamie won 64 75 and drew Scott Oudesma.

No Jamie in doubles draw.

Yes he won!!!!!!!!

Oudesma would have been my second choice. He's definitely someone Jamie can beat.

We'll have to see...

Yes but 9 points for R2 would be one of his best scoring weeks!

Good news: Baker won 64 63.

Great news: Fruttero upset Goldstein.

Impressive stuff from Jamie B. He was losing such matches last year. I think that he has finally made that transition from Futures to Challengers.

USM, will he do Delray Beach next week? He can qualify in this sort of form.

Yes Yes Jamie Baker - 9 points and counting.

Frutterro has a pretty big game too, but Jamie has a great chance of making the quarters!

Bit of info on Fruttero:

He's ranked 394 but was ranked 183 in November 2005.

So far this year, he's reached the final of a Futures in Guatemala (l. to Peter Polansky in straight sets) and qualified here in Waikoloa.
