British Tennis Forum Player of the Month Vote - July 2025

This is the vote for the July 2025 Player of the Month. The poll will be live until Tuesday evening at 11pm.
16 players this month and a strong field. Anyone can vote, so please give it a go and particularly keen to see any new board members take part - if you do vote, keep the thread alive by telling us who you have voted for and why!

1. Oliver Bonding - unseeded he wins the Roehampton J300 pre Wimbledon singles title, with some very good wins and dropping just one set along the way. GB's last winner was Jack PJ in 2021, Joao Fonseca won here in 2023. Oli followed up with reaching the boys doubles final at Wimbledon.

2. Oliver Tarvet - for winning his first round match at Wimbledon, his first match on the main tour, and putting up a creditable performance against the WR2 and defendingchampion, Carlos Alcaraz, on his debut on Centre Court.

3. Sonay Kartal- Fantastic Wimbledon for her , starting with a huge win over seeded Ostapenko, followed by straight sets wins against Tomova and Parry . No disgrace losing to slam finalist Pavluchenkova , in fact Sonay played a good match and had chances but experience told în the end. If she can beef up her second serve a little to make it less vulnerable her progress will be even quicker. And she is up there competing for British number 1 with Emma and Katie.

4. Cameron Norrie - Really great to see Cam back in the big time . Following his R16 finish at Roland Garros he went one better at Wimbledon with outstanding performances to beat stand out players Bautista, Tiafoe, Bellucci and an epic 5 set win over Jarry to reach the last 8. Alcaraz was always likely to be a match too far and so it proved but that does not take away a phenomenal tournament by Cam as the last Brit standing which has to make him a leading contender for POTM !

5. Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool - Wimbledon Mens Doubles Champions. Go to the top of the Race, qualify for ATP Tour Finals and to 3rd and 4th in the world rankings - 89 years since the last all British winners, enough said.

6. Fran Jones for winning a WTA 125 in France and another in Italy two weeks later to smash her career high and enter the top 100 at 84.

7. Katie Swan winning the W35 in Spain on her come back road, beating the top two seeds and overtaking her PR

8. Emma Raducanu for her return to form at Wimbledon, defeating former champion Marketa Vondrousova in the second round and pushing world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the third. An incredible atmosphere on Centre Court. Followed up with a strong run to the Washington WTA 500 semis, beating Osaka and Sakkari on the way and getting back to British Number One

9. Mimi Xu for reaching the semifinals of junior Wimbledon and second round of women's doubles to cap an excellent grass court season.

10. Katie O'Brien for winning the Invitational Mixed Doubles at Wimbledon with Thomas Johansson to become the most unexpected Wimbledon champion, and hopefully inspiring the players that she ccoaches.

11.Jack Pinnington Jones - beat Tomas Echeverry WR 53 in Wimbledon R1, then the following week, as 5th seed, won the Nottingham Challenger 50. These combined to take him up 91 places to a new CH 190 and GB #7

12. Jan Choinski - after a lean first half of 2025, Jan has won 2  challengers this month, in Troyes and Bunschoten.

13. Greg Slade - continued his good year by winning his first matches in the Quad Wheelchair events at Wimbledon, reaching the singles semi and doubles final. Greg is now firmly into the top 10 and looking to build on that, hopefully we will see him get into the USO field in a few weeks time.

14. Toby Samuel - won silver medal in the World University Games, seeded 13 and only lost the gold match 7-5 in the final set; also part of the silver winning GB team

15. James Connel - unseeded, won bronze medal (semis) in the World University Games, beating top seed Coleman Wong WR 173 ( who beat Ben Shelton in Miami in March ) in R3, also part of the silver winning GB team.

16. George Loffhagen - unseeded, won the Segovia ATP Challenger 75 title, beating (2) Hugo Grenier along the way, for his first challenger title. Soared up to a new CH 236.

Despite the strength of the field I'm expecting a landslide for Fran, and rightly so, I'm so chuffed for her. But that means sticking to my usual tactic of giving a nod to someone else and letting others do the work so I'm sticking with my nomination and voting for Jan. GO FRAN!

For me, so many options i could vote - I was going to name check them all but realised it was most of the field that could get my vote in a normal month!

4 stood out eventually:

Cam for his return to form and a great Wimbledon - welcome back Cam!
Sonay for making herself a name in the public eye and challenging into the top 50 in what was a break through month at the highest level
Fran - for two titles at the 125 level and charging into the top 100- so pleased for her.

Any of those 3 would be the winner, many others are deserving of a vote here.

Ultimately though, it was Julian and Lloyd - they couldnt do any better than winning a Wimbledon, theyve gone to the top of the mens game in doubles now, leading the Race. They dominated the grass season generally and , whilst that isnt part of this month, Wimbledon just showcased their rise to the top.

So my vote goes to our Wimbledon mens doubles champions, Julian and Lloyd.

Thanks Brendan - and it was great to see Jan do so well, one of a few great performances this month at challenger level. Great to see Jan nominated and getting votes.

If ending an 89-year Wimbledon drought can't win you Player/Team of the month, what can?

I added the 89 year comment to the narrative, 9Vicman.

That said, I think this is a very tough month, going to be interesting.

And remember, folks, the top two places or ties qualify for the player of the season vote as well.

And, if we have a tie for the PoM at the top, there will be a vote off like we had in June. Feels to me like that is a very real possibility this month, once more.

Wow this a difficult month to pick a winner ..

Some might say Cam, but of course his return to form was actually in May, it just continued in June and July

Sonay has been relentless in her drive up the rankings

Emma is finally showing us what she is capable of - actually the quality of her level, match for match, is probably best of all in my list when you consider the performances and the opponents

Cashpool have become a force to be reckoned with and won a tourney in Britain - but they shouldn't win just because historically our results at Wimbledon have been poor

But head and shoulders above all these is someone who I hoped one day might make it to the top 100 but my head said probably never would. The stand out Player of the month for me is FRAN!! TODAY SITTING AT LIVE 84

What a great month including Wimbledon champions.

Not the slightest doubt for where my vote is going though.

Go, Fran !!!!

And switch Brendan's vote. Because he really thinks so too

Understand the point re not voting for someone just because we havent done well in the past. But, winning Wimbledon is the pinnacle of our sport, its the world championship really, it exceeds all slams in terms of prestige and history, whatever anyone says.

And Lloyd and Julian did that. You cant beat being top of your sport. It wasnt just a tourney in Britain, it was the worlds biggest title and they won it!
