Week 32 - WTA Premier 5 ($2.8M) - Montreal, Canada Hard

So will Katie get points for that walkover? I see 15 year old WC Leylah Fernandez (Katie's likely opponent) has a doubles specialist and unranked alt and is 1/25 to win, so if Katie didn't get those points, that would have probably have been much more preferable.

WTA Rule XIV.B.2.b.i comes into effect:

Well, 20 pts and $3,260 to Katie then... for being present on site.

As for the qualifiers themselves... it's raining so they haven't started yet. At least we know where all our seasonal rain in the UK has gone to at the moment.

If Katie loses her FQR she gets FQR prize money but just 1 point.

Ah yes, round preceding their elimination.

I'm still not really clear what the situation is. Can someone break down the following for me please:

Katie walkover, beats Fernandez = how many points?
Katie walkover, loses to Fernandez = how many points? I'm assuming just 1 judging by PaulM's post?
Fernandez beats alt, loses to Katie = how many points?
Fernandez beats alt, beats Katie = how many points?

Whoever comes through
Katie wins FQR 30 points
Katie loses FQR 1 point

Fernandez (or Rosolska) wins QR1 and loses to Katie 20 points
Fernandez (or Rosolska) wins QR1 and then beats Katie, 30 points

Thanks ABB, that clears it up. In that case I think I'd much rather Katie had an unranked alt like Fernandez had, but I suppose you can't complain about 30 points on the line for a win over Fernandez (or Rosolska), certainly a nicer prospect than it could have been if Vekic wasn't involved in Washington.

Pleased to see Rebecca Marino (currently 310) got a super win in qualifying here, against Lapko (WR 69).
Back on the WTA, and back on home soil after so many years, the feelgood redemption story continues, in similar vein to the delightful renaissance of Ash Barty.
An antidote story to the vicissitudes of the world at large. All warm, and fuzzy

Rosolska is actually up an early break here in the match that will interest Katie, 1-2*

LAF breaks back 3-3, but it does look a lot closer than what the bookies initially priced it.

Leylah wins 5 games in a row (all to either 30 or 40) and takes the first set 6-3.

Fernandez 6-3 5-1*, so after a slow start she has won 10 of the last 11 games and looks nailed on to receive those 20 ranking points as would have been expected being 1/25 to win at the start of the match.

Could be a banana skin for Katie.

Leylah Fernandez wins 6-3 6-2 so now plays Katie Boulter tomorrow. Nice 20 points there for the youngster.

I'm really excited for Katie, in her first Prem Mand(?). This is a great chance to get loads of (easy?) points and then play a great player. She should be well rested from her exploits last week now too.

LS has her due on at 19.00.
