How on Earth do you pronounce Culibrk? Is it like old-fashioned posh English names? e.g. Buccleuch = 'Bewley'? No idea.
Anyway, both Brits warm up with gentle wins for more pressing concerns tomorrow.
What with the rain and scheduling in Washington and the seemingly lack of courts in San Jose, they're determined not to have Brit's on at a reasonable time this week.
We got to see all of Boulter, but Dart's match was on in the early hours. Swan on 4th with a 2pm (7pm UK) start isn't helping us watch her. Jo as expected is in the evening prime slot (3am here) and with them just using the stadium court today in San Jose, Hev 4th on and Vickery just taking Buzarnescu to a decider means she won't be on until around midnight.
Also crazy how San Jose starts at 10am local time whereas Washington starts at 2pm local.
Looking forward to the US Open starting so that we can watch from 4pm, although they do have a roof on Armstrong now so there will be more 'prime time' evening seesions now, 4 matches starting at midnight (UK) rather than 2 in recent years.
Hev had to successfully fend off a break point on her last service game and has now just broken to 30. *4-3 - not the highest quality but I'd take 12 or 13 more games of this if it means job done.
Hev takes the set 6-4. Broke again to 30 and then held to 15 to take the set. Liu misjudged a shot a 30-15 and left it before unsuccessfully challenging - could have been a big point.
Still kind of following scores on phone. Watson was broken after not coverting 4 or 5 GPs, Liu broke after 6 deuces. Liu was then 40-0 on serve and looking in command of the set, but Hev roared back with 5 points in a row and back on serve again. *3-4.
