MD is out finally. Both Brits play tomorrow. First is the clash of the 17 yr olds, and then Maia will likely not have an easy match, but still should win. Her opponent retired from her first round singles last week, but somehow still made it to the doubles SF.

R32: Francesca JONES (GBR) 582 17yrs vs Rosa VICENS MAS (ESP) 744 (CH: 717 April 18) 17yrs (JCH:702 Jan 17)
R32: Maia LUMSDEN (GBR) [7] 428 vs Caroline WERNER (GER) 537 (CH:533 May 18)

It's Fran's second loss to Rosa this year so was never going to be easy and perhaps made more challenging with the difference in experience on carpet. This being Rosa's 4th tournament in Obidos this year alone and only Fran's 3rd match on carpet ever. But on to the hard courts of Uzbekistan next week in the last of this mini 25K tour before returning to the 15Ks and more familiar clay the week after.

Sadly Maia lost to the same player that Fran did, albeit taking her to three sets. In both the first and third sets that she lost, Maia was up early breaks, and then seemed to lose her way badly at the end of the sets. In the first set, Maia was 4-2 and 5-3 up, then lost 4 games in a row to lose the set 5-7. After getting back on track in the second, early in the third set I thought Maia was back on track and would win the set comfortably. But from 2-0 she slumped to 2-4 and the match was then as good as over. A pity, Maia was seeded both weeks but has not reached the QF in either of them.

R2: LUMSDEN, Maia (GBR) 7 428 lost to VICENS MAS Rosa (ESP) 744 5-7 6-4 3-6
