Olivia Nicholls

I've been so impressed with Olivia Nicholls this Spring. Winning 4 doubles titles is so impressive and she's forming an exciting partnership with Sarah Beth Grey. Would you give the pair wild cards to the WTA British events? Or would you give it to established singles players (Hev, JoKo)? Arguably, Nicholls and Grey need the money more and have shown desire to compete at higher levels this month!

I have just interviewed Olivia on her progression this year - would love to know your thoughts :) Nick

It's great for Olivia to be reviewed Nick and a good article. It will be interesting to see how she copes with the doubles only, in terms of her success in finding a path for it to pay, especially whilst her partners, including Beth, are still trying to play singles too. As you mentioned, she's partnered two people this year, and maybe she will have to go on having more than one partner, although she and Beth seem to be trying to give it a go as a pair.

One comment on the above reference to WCs, I assume you mean the practice of giving the established Brit singles players, doubles WCs too? That's a difficult question because several of them - Naomi, Heather, even Jo, are well up in the doubles rankings, and follow Anna S in the rankings. So if a singles player wants a doubles WC, and is higher up in the rankings, its a more difficult proposition to say no to them. On that score it is important that Olivia and Beth continue to play together through the grass season, and with luck they will at least get cards into the initial ITF tournaments, and after then it may depend on how well they fare.

"Today we paid a visit to @LboroTennis and top-10 UK womens doubles player @OliviaNicholls. Olivia is currently suffering from rotator cuff tendinitis and is using PHYSIOLAB® to help relieve the consequential swelling and inflammation in her shoulder."

I suspected there might be a problem a few weeks ago, when she seemed to be having problems with her serve.

Hope she soon recovers

Olivia had shoulder surgery three weeks ago, and says on instagram that she is now pain free. And there is a picture of her in training. smile smile

She's been having problems for some time - it's good that it has been sorted and she's started rehab.

All the best to Olivia - I'd hate to add a double to that. - so many injured at the moment.

To resurrect this thread, and although a bit of a surprise, Olivia has made the finals of the doubles at the WTA 250 in Lyon

Playing with Alicia Barnett

Shout out to the two of them !

And good luck......

Shout out to Olivia Nicholls - an excellent WTA 250 title at Granby last week, playing with Lissey, following an ITF 100ktitle earlier in August.

Now GB number 2, and +16 places in the rankings to WTA 72

A shout out too, to the LTA's Player Coach programme that allowed her to play, and fund her playing, after she graduated from Loughborough.

I've no idea if this programme still exists - I rather think not - but Olivia says she couldn't have made it without the programme and it seemed very sensible to me

Liv on Instagram. The caption to a couple of photos of her and Lissey.
"What a journey it has been, with so many incredible memories on and off the court.. how lucky we have been to share it. Here's to the next chapter in our careers"

Yes, so it appears. I'm glad I finally got to see them live at Surbiton this year, especially as I have been following their progress for some years - I think it was 2016 when I first saw Lissey play singles but hadn't seen Liv until this year.

Oh I read as if she may be retiring! I guess all will become clear next season.
