Week 20 - ITF ($15K) - Tiberias, Israel - Hard

Not wholly clear what is happening here this week. On the acceptance list Amelia Stuart, Emma Raducanu and Emile Lind Gallagher should all have been in the qualifying draw. In the end though in a rather abbreviated draw, it is only Emma that appears, and she will have to win just one match to get into the MD. Let's hope that Emile has somehow got into the MD, as it would be a shame if she would miss her final chance in Israel this run to get that 3rd counter.

QR1: Emma RADUCANU (GBR) UNR 15yrs (JCH:45 April 18) vs BYE

Yes, all three should have been in qualifying. The top 6 on the list are all missing, but the next 5 above Amelia are in. It would have to be a WC, which would surprise me, but you never know.

Presumably Emilie (and Amelia) decided they couldn't afford to stay on. That's a pity for Emilie, she got so near and yet now that 3rd counter is receding back into the distance again...

Given where in Israel Tiberias is, there's a reasonable line of argument that suggests security could be a very pressing concern at the moment.

Apologies for what may be a daft question but do counters "expire"?   How long does Emilie have to get her 3rd counter and have a ranking?

Yes, they do expire - after one year. Emilie's oldest counter is 2 points from Stellenbosch, which drops off in December

Emma has qualified easily enough. She now goes in search of her second counter this week.

Thanks- she still has several months to get that next counter and hopefully she will manage.

Well as long as Emma can avoid getting into a stew here, she should be good for another point...

Emma Rad about to kick off against the cycling relay stew girl, and as overwhelming favourite too.

And young Emma indeed gets the win, in two sets

And congrats to Emma for successfully avoiding any kind of stew and winning her second counter. And although it was a close two sets, perhaps most remarkable is that Emma was not broken once during the match.

Tough match for Emma next, up against the 5th seed and last week's losing finalist in Sajur.
