Week 16 - WTA International ($125K) - Zhengzhou, China - Hard

In the doubles, Naomi and Yanina Wickmayer (BEL) are the #3 seeds and have an opener also against a Chinese pair.

I've added in the rankings now, using next weeks.

R16: Naomi BROADY/ Yanina WICKMAYER (GBR/BEL) [3] 159 (69+90) vs Xinyu GAO/ Chen LIANG (CHN) 377 (252+125)

Hmm, it's not the easiest draw in the world for Naomi. On paper 134 should beat a 496 WC fairly comfortably, but 16 yo Xiyu Wang along side the similarly named Xinyu Wang (also 16) are considered very good prospects.

Naomi in the first quarter and would have a tough potential second round match whoever came through that all European match:

(1/WC) Zhang, Shuai vs (WC) Yuan, Yue
(WC) Tian, Ran vs (Q) Minokoshi, Mai
(WC) Wang, Xiyu vs Broady, Naomi
Zvonareva, Vera vs (6) Wickmayer, Yanina

This isn't an International.
It's the $125K Series - they have an entirely different points structure to Interntaional level events.

Just realised Xiyu turned 17 2 weeks ago, Xinyu isn't 17 until September.

Lost 64 75.

Looks like she only got to China yesterday? If so a tad unfortunate to be scheduled so early. Draw tougher than it looked on paper but still really should have taken this one.

Not a good result at all. Poor serving today, low percentages, and lots of breaks either way.

Awful serving. In fact the 17 yr old outserved Naomi 5 Aces to 3 DFs, against Naomi's 6 Aces to 12 DFs. In the second set, Naomi only served 3 DFs - in the first set she had 9 DFs at more than 2 per game, but in the second set she won only 44% of her first serves, which considering her game is based on her serve is extremely low.

If Naomi only did arrive in China yesterday, that really is limiting her chances.

R32: Naomi BROADY (GBR) 134 lost to Xiyu Wang (CHN) [WC] 496 17 yrs (JCH:7 Jan 18) 4-6 5-7

Another day, another serving day for Naomi

Such a weapon when on fire but the likes of Isner and Karlovic in the men's game do it on repeat.

Why so late in arriving ?

If the Chinese girl is Junior no 7 she is no mug irrespective of Broady's  play
