Week 16 - ATP Masters 1000 - Monte-Carlo (clay)

Yes but the qualifying entry mark did go out a lot late on as most much higher ranked alts had ceased to be available ( like with Slams the actual final qualifying acceptance can sometimes almost come down to who's around especially with an unexpected batch of late withdrawals ). Cam just got 'in' relatively late though arguably it had still looked that decent chance to take if it's through that doubt that he is not here.

Jamie and Bruno get a first round bye and then play winner of Raonic/Khachanov or Bopanna/Roger-Vasellin

L56:   Kyle Edmund WR 26 vs (Q) Andreas Seppi (ITA) WR 62 (CH = 18 in January 2013 - he's 34)

This time it's Kyle who leads the head-to-head by 2-0:  Antwerp quarter-final in straight sets in 2016 & the last 16 of this year's Oz Open in four.

Not on tomorrow (like the original match), maybe it's been moved to Tuesday. Gives Kyle a day of rest.

Garcia-Lopez (LL) has replaced Busta (out due to lower back) and will be Kyle/Seppi's opponent in the next round.

If Busta had withdrawn earlier Kyle would have been seeded but as things are working out with the draw I am not complaining.

Dominant second set by Kyle on his serve ( Kyle only conceded 4 points on serve ) finally taken on his 6th BP of the set.

Started the final set under pressure on serve though but saved 3 BPs to come through the opening game. Then had a BP himself in game 2.

3-6 7-5 *1-1

According to today's Times, Kyle flew from Marrakech to Monte-Carlo in a private jet!  It looks, however, as though he has yet to get the Marrakech final out of his system:

L56:   (Q) Andreas Seppi (ITA) WR 62 defeated Kyle Edmund WR 23 by 6-3 5-7 6-2  bleh

At least he seems to have shown a bit more fight in that one.  hmm
