Week 2 - ITF ($25K) - Daytona Beach, Florida, USA, Clay

L32: Katie SWAN (GBR) [6] 300 vs Qualifier

Katie is also playing with Alya Aksu (TUR) in the doubles but unfortunately they have drawn the #1 seeds Chang and Mueller (USA/USA) in the first round. Katie is likely to play both her first round singles and doubles matches on Wednesday.

Katie's tournament seems to be currently becalmed by rain. They are still trying to finish the final 4 Q3 matches. At present Katie is still due on court later today for singles and doubles, but with a start of now not before 3 pm, it seems likely that the OOP will be curtailed again.

Not a good start to Katie's year cry

Katie had a similarly slow start last year - she also lost first round in Daytona Beach in 2017 (it was in qualifying then). She only won one match before March (a QR1 in Orlando).
Then she went to Sharm, picked up her back-to-back $15K titles, and built from there.

Mmes. Swan & Aksu take on the first seeds; thus far, unsuccessfully, 3-6 1-1*

More successful now; they force the MuhTuhBuh, 3-6 6-4

Only won 6 points in return in second set, but 4 of these in one game provided the only break in the set.

3-6 6-4, MTB

( indeed only 6 points on return in the first set too, but then their one break trick was beaten by three breaks by the opposition )

[12-14] in the MTB.

Lost their doubles by 6-3 4-6 [14-12]

Came from *1-4 to lead "6-4 and had MPs at each of *9-8, 10-9*, *11-10 and 12-11* so 4 MPS in all, but then lost the first MP they faced at *12-13 ( the tale shown in graphical form as I wrote ).

Would have been rather more entertaining if they'd won but in the clearly shorter MTB set they yet again won precisely 6 points against serve. Their first serve in % ( and then second serve point execution ) let them down though, winning 5/5 on first serve and 1/8 on second.

Pity
