Team tennis 2018 ( Formerly Aegon )

Dukes Meadows with Neil Bamford, Adam Thornton Brown and Harry Skinner beat Globe LTC 10-2.
Raynes Park with Jamie Baker who played for Roehampton last year (big money signing) beat an A1 Pharma team without Pauffley, Willis or Dan Evans (who has signed for them) 10-2
And Roehampton with Cam Norrie! Oli Golding and Anton Matusevich beat Cumberland 10-2

...and in even bigger news my Corporate Tennis team beat Cromer B 12-0 to start their charge to the National Finals in 2020!

Thanks for that, Born2win. Really interesting. Love team tennis.

Great to hear that Cam Norrie is playing British (English?) team tennis.

Were those matches this weekend just gone?

Liam Broady was playing for DL Raynes Park on Sunday as he beat Neil Bamford in 3 sets. One of the only times Neil has been beaten at this level for many years. Jamie Baker and Josh Goodall also registered wins for DL as they beat Dukes Meadows 10-2.

Olly Golding beat Marcus Willis in 3 sets, with wins for Matt Short and Anton Matusevich, but a loss for Richard Bloomfield against Lamar Bartley as Roehampton inflicted a second defeat in a row for A1 Pharma.

Sutton also ran comfortable winners over Globe 10-2, with Jack Carpenter and Andrew Bettles winning at no1. and no2. respectively.

Sadly my Corporate Tennis team lost in a tiebreak shootout 7-6 to EA (East Anglia) Tennis.

I don't get the impression that many of us new about these matches being played. I'd love to go and watch!

I noticed Oli Golding played for Roehampton at the weekend, seems he was injured though as he played and lost 4 games and then retired.
Joe Salisbury also played singles for Roehampton and won.

I was looking to see if Dan Evans might have played but seems not

DL Raynes Park vs Sutton sounded like a classic, Evan Hoyt, Brandon Murphy and Dan Smethurst putting Sutton 3-1 up after the singles, only for Jack Draper and Jamie Baker (not playing together) to win crucial doubles rubbers, making it a tie at 3-3. Only for Sutton to take the match on a tiebreak shootout (2 x singles 10 pt tiebreaks and 1 x doubles 10pt tiebreak).

Cumberland thrashed a really weak A1 Pharma team 12-0. A1 are now in serious relegation trouble, they can only hope they beat Globe to avoid joining already relegated DL Ipswich.

Roehampton Club as mentioned above, beat Dukes Meadows 10-2 to go top of the league and remain undefeated, at least until this Sunday when they play the only other undefeated team Sutton.

Two rounds of matches have now been played since the last update:

Sunday 20th May: Roehampton remained undefeated by beating Sutton away 8-4 with wins for Joe Salisbury and Richard Bloomfield, Oli Golding lost to Jonathan Gray. Raynes Park crushed Globe 12-0 with wins for Jonny O'Mara and Josh Goodall. Dukes Meadow beat Cumberland away 8-4 with Finn Bass and Neil Bamford picking up wins.

Sunday 3rd June: Another crushing defeat of Globe 12-0, this time by Roehampton, who are top of the league, played 5 won 5. Sutton beat Cumberland with wins for Jonathan Gray and Andy Bettles. Dukes Meadows consigned A1 Pharma to their 4th consecutive loss despite Marcus Willis beating Neil Bamford. Adam Thornton-Brown defeated Lamar Bartley (who was been winning consistently on the British Tour).

The top 4 who qualify for the national finals play offs have almost been confirmed now, as Roehampton, Sutton, Raynes and Dukes Meadows. Cumberland, A1 and Globe fighting it out to avoid relegation.

My corporate tennis team have a final match vs Cromer A this week to determine who wins the Norfolk County division and makes the county play offs, to reach regional south east (north) next year.

Two further match days to report on:

Sunday 10th June
Sutton beat A1 8-4, Neil Pauffley won his doubles and singles vs Brandon Murphy, but the rest of the team struggled with Sutton players Alex Jhun, Jack Molloy and Emile Hudd winning their singles.
Globe lost to Cumberland 4-8. The singles were shared 2-2 with wins for Ben Jones and Richard Wire for Cumberland and Pavlo Zhukov and Gaddo Guidotti for Globe, but both doubles were clinched by Cumberland.
Raynes Park beat Roehampton 8-4 ending Roehampton's unbeaten run. Jonny O'Mara won at no.1 with Josh Goodall winning at no.3 for Raynes, while Joe Salisbury and Richard Bloomfield won at no.2 and no.4 for Roehampton. Raynes then won two close doubles matches.

Sunday 24th June
Dukes Meadows lost to Sutton 4-8. Evan Hoyt, Alexis Canter and Emile Hudd winning for their singles for Sutton. While Neil Bamford won his at no.2 for Dukes Meadows. Finn Bass then played in the doubles with Neil to beat Alex Jhun and Tom Farquharson.
Globe lost to A1 in a relegation play off 0-12 with wins for Marcus Willis, Neil Pauffley, Peter Bothwell and Toby Martin.
Cumberland lost to Raynes Park 2-10, All four singles were won by Raynes, with Jonny O'Mara, Ben Draper, Matt Beecher and James Feaver.

So the league has now finished, with Raynes Park directly through to the national finals and Roehampton and Sutton (on sets difference) making the play offs, and Dukes Meadows clinching the 4th place in the play offs.
Globe join DL Ipswich in relegation.
