Week 2 - WTA International ($227K) - Hobart, Australia Hard

Fantastic to see Hev progressing, I am suprised that tournaments dont offer wildcards to past champions who are still competitive ie gain direct entry into the AO MD.

The pragmatist in me sees there are only 32 MD slots and I am sure the wider view locally is it is purely a warm up for the Aussie Open and why on earth would you offer a slot to a player ranked 75 who isnt Australian. Little or no place for sentiment in Tennis.

In awe.......

(and well done, Hev !)

Yes, it was the time too to be up and watching this that I was thinking about as well..

See that Heather has been drawn against Sorana Cirstea in the first round, #3 seed...

L32: Heather WATSON (GBR) [Q] 75 vs Sorana CIRSTEA (ROU [3] 37 (CH:21 Aug 13)

HtoH: 3-1. Heather won in Miama (12), Auckland (13) and Fed Cup (14) but then lost their last match in the US Open L128, also in 2014.

i have a very poorly husband so night's are very broken at the moment. He never minds me catching a bit of tennis during any night time 'attendance'. Bless him.

Great news that Hev won again last night. That one I did sleep through - the stats don't look like it was totally simple. But straight sets, pretty good !!

Great win. Went from *4-0 to 4-5* and had to save a set point.

Needed something like 8 set points to close it out.

So sorry to hear about your husband, JuliaC. All best wishes.

Glad that both you, he and Hev had a good night last night

(Mind you, Jamiee Fourlie is one of my little faves, great tennis for her age - but allez Hev !)

Well done Hev
Heather now has as many wins in 2018 as all other GB players combined

Or, more relevantly, Heather now has 5 point scoring wins in 2018.
That's already as many as she managed through 6th April in 2017 (she did manage 4 wins in Fed Cup in that perios, but those don't score points.)

Very considerate of Julia's hubby to get ill during the Aussie swing when there will at least be tennis to watch in the middle of the night whilst administering.
Best wishes for every improvement to the condition.

That's by far Heather's most impressive match so far this young season. Now hope she can continue against young Jamiee too...

L16: Heather WATSON (GBR) [Q] 74 vs Jaimee FOURIS (AUS) [WC] 310 18yrs (CH:271 Feb 17 JCH:38 Feb 16)
