Katy reached the QF here last year, so she'll have to better that to move up. 9 points to come off on 1st January so another SF needed at least to beat her CH.

My error - missed the 9pts...

Katy covered her 18 points from  last week by getting 30 for reaching the final (30) so nett (+12). She got 9 points at Bombay last year so she'll have to win two rounds (i.e. Qf) to make a gain.

This is true, but still needs the SF to threaten her career high.
Come on Katy !!

Sarah Beth was first to court today. Unfortunately, that means she was first out of the tounament too, 4-6 3-6

Last week's exploits may well have left their effects in the (long) legs of the Spanish player.

Gabi is now *3-1 up.....

Despite winning 5 more points 92-87. Her downfall was only 3/18 BPs taken. Sam's serving stats were better than her opponent's but she was broken once more - 4x vs 3x.

Yes, all last week's finalists, singles and doubles, have now lost in the first round this week.... Although the scores were similarly, Katy's match was actually not as close as Sam's. Katy had less points, and her stats were poorer than her opponent's whilst as noted above, Sam's were the reverse. Still it is just Gabi that is through to the L16, and in the doubles it is just Katy and Beth this week (who will now face the 2nd seeds).
