Checked the singles main draw earlier when I started the doubles thread.  How on earth did I miss that?  confuse    Am about to merge the two, as there's no justification for separate threads.

Kyle's draw gives him a repeat of last year's R1 here, which he didn't manage to complete (2-3 ret.) - they have also had a 3-set win apiece in their other meetings.

Just deleting these posts, as the whole singles/doubles argument in every thread is getting rather tiring

Back to Vienna, I remember Kyle lost a close one to Ferrer on the North American hard courts back in the summer. Started well but then ran out of gas

Ferrer used to win these kind of tournaments for fun back in his pomp but at 35 he's not the force he was a year or two ago, lost to Schwartzman in Antwerp quarters last week. It'll be a tricky match but a good one for Kyle to pull through.

As an side point, does anyone else feel that Kyle should add a few more ATP 250s in his scheduling? While 2017 has definitely been a development year for him, particularly against the top players, he seems to make things slightly harder for himself by compiling a schedule based largely around ATP 500s and Masters events. And as a result, week-in, week-out he comes up against the big guns early on, and never gets a chance to get much momentum or confidence flowing.

I was surprised not to see him compete last week, would have been a chance to pick up a few wins in a slightly weaker field and come into the tougher two events with more confidence

Thank you, Sheddie.   I agree & was tempted to do that myself, but was curious to see how Jaggy would justify himself this time!

Personally I feel as long as Kyle has the rank to get in he should play as high a level as possible unless preparing for a slam, he just needs to play the top guys as often as possible.

Oh for goodness sake, There was no argument as far as I can see but continue the Stasi like approach if you must. I ll not bother contributing anymore so feel free to delete my whole profile.

SC's comment wasn't necessary - it is just that he does the tidying up - and most people enjoy your comments Jaggy.

I think it was just 'banter' from SC, although I agree with Michael, it was unnecessary and rather predictable, continuing the tedium instead of stamping it out.

Sheddie's tidy-up was already perfectly efficient and explained.

But banter is banter, as you know smile

Don't stop contributing, please.

Yes, Jaggy, please continue to contribute but also give up on the doubles 'banter'. Sympathy from this quarter ( speaking purely personally ) on that one had already dried up.

It's a judgement call as can have to be made at times ( fortunately not too often in this forum ). Time to move on ( says he throwing in his pennies worth ).

Yes, fully enjoy your contributions Jaggy, you make some really interesting points and contribute to a lot of great discussions.

It's just that we've had the doubles 'banter' so many times now, and had the debate about a separate section, it's got tedious, and as Steven said, is starting to wind a lot of people up. And I don't want a lot of people being put off coming to the forum because every thread is clogged up with it, rather than discussing the tennis.

SCs banter also did for Jared hes the meanest badass in town (if you pardon the americanisms). I would be very sad to see Jaggy as the self styled voice of the masses go the same way. Solidarity brother.
