A bad starter indeed. This lose in R1 or win the tournament thing is a bit bizarre even allowing for the limited tournaments Tom plays so maybe understandably he needs to get into the swing of things more than others. To take 3 tournament titles with the number of wins he's had over the last few months is certainly economy of wins to secure good points.

It seems to me we just need more Anglo-Irish events, specially for Tom

I don't know about the starter bit but he's won practically every tournament he's played on British and Irish soil. And lost in R1 of all those played abroad. It's a habit he's going to have to get out of because I'm not sure the LTA have the will to accommodate him and I'm sure that the Irish federation don't have the means.

 According to ITF app, second set tb was a nightmare for Neil, He led 6-1 before losing 7 straight points to lose tb 8-6!!bleh
