Only 25 times?  disbelief

Its also a bit daft as to be economically viable at this level the players concerned have to take every opportunity to succeed, doubles offers that and indeed using Jamie as an example make a very decent living. Winning also maintains motivation and keeps them in the singles game for longer, without doubles I am sure some of the boys still playing singles and with a slight chance of winning would have quit. Although most top singles players dont play doubles I think that is more a question of them not needing the money, its more about choices being driven by fiscal reality. This isnt Glasgow wehere the streets are tidy and paved with gold.

I would accept the economically viable option to a certain extent, as a strong opponent of Tory capitalism and elitism this is something we fight for on a daily basis in working class Glasgow, my issue is that it's a secondary sport, almost an admission of not being good enough so sod it I ll play doubles. I think we need to support the young players more financially and socially, but that's never going to happen in this country with the middle classes we have dominating the positions of power in this sport Doubles should only be for fun or for older players like your Nestors and Paes etc, not for young promising players. It's a very random sport almost like a lottery, look how often the top players switch partners. And MTBs are an awful way of deciding a match.

I actually agree with Jaggy (at least partially) about doubles, in the sense of being disappointed when those with potential to be good singles players take the doubles option (though I fully understand why they do it) and I'm not anti- people expressing opinions like that, but I agree that posting variations on that same theme again and again and again (along with the constant Tory-bashing - again, a valid opinion, but it doesn't need to be re-hashed every few threads, especially those that aren't about politics in the first place)

I realise Jaggy isn't the worst offender and he is actually a valued member of the forum who makes some very good points sometimes, but I've had quite a few complaints about threads getting hijacked with stuff like this again and again and I get the impression it is driving a few people away, so while I still want mods to take as light a touch as possible, I'm happy for them to use the delete/edit buttons a bit more often if they see fit, in the interests of the forum as a whole.

Point taken, Steven.

And let's be clear we will be continuing with joint singles and doubles threads with some separate ones for big events. Because the issue was given a good airing in a thread started by Jaggy proposing a separate doubles section. Anyone wishing to can go back and read the consensus against this and that was purely on the liking and practicalities of such an arrangement

So given that and Jaggy's very well known views on doubles, and if unsurprisingly the continuous little asides are annoying folk and even pushing them away, there is a simple solution here. Stop it, don't be selfish and concentrate with the good stuff you can produce. Move on, mate.

Let's talk tennis !

That's impressive. I get the impressions Ryan Shane is on the way up so that's a good win.
