Week 41 - ITF ($25K) - Sumter, SC - USA - Hard

That maybe only for 1pt but that was a really excellent comeback and win for Emily today.

There was also a very straightforward 7-5 6-1 win for Daneika and Tara in the doubles.

The easy with which Emily beat Jade Lewis I think shows that from a Tennis perspective she has probably made the correct decision to give US College a miss. On the mens side there is the issue of ongoing physical maturation less so with the women. Jade was a top 20 college player last year playing No 1 in the strongest tennis conference. Dishing out a couple of bagels just shows the gulf between all but the very best 2 or 3 college players and the level on the futures tour.

Absolutely cracking win for Emily. But I don't think that she's made the right decision. I may be completely wrong, of course. Although it also depends how you define (in purely tennis terms) the 'right' decision - i.e.if Emily is WR 280 at age 21, that won't have been the right decision, in my view. I don't think one result against Jade (highly dodgy) shows much either - apart from the fact that Jade should have stayed in college where she was doing very well as opposed to heaping huge pressure on herself by quitting and taking the mega bucks .....

3 breaks already; Tara with the better of it, *4-2

Tara lost the first set on a decisive TB after 3 breaks apiece. Already though 2 breaks up in the second set.

6-7(1) *3-0

Tara, not looking to exploit any unsporting, uncharitable advantage, generously relinquishes that two break advantage. Good old sense of fair play, simply not cricket otherwise...
6-7(1) 4-4*

Tara loses, from a strong position in each set, 6-7(1) 4-6

Emily also loses. Qualifying through in a $25K and a career best win to boot is a good week and a good stepping stone though. Sound foundations hopefully being laid then, but no reward today, 2-6 4-6

Well done to Tara and Daneika

That's 6 British women's 25K doubles semi finalists this week in 5 pairs. Tara & Daneika here, Sam and Beth in France ( with Sam having beaten Beth to reach the final ), Katie S in Portugal and Harriet in Japan. Plus Anna ( with Nicole M ) is a WTA International quarter finalist in Austria.

For these that that rather prefer their singles, Sam, Beth and Katie S are still going strong in that too ( into QFs ).

I assume that Tara is ranked 246 and Ms Borthwick 607
