So have Maia, Sam, Alicia, Laura D and Beth all got MWC ? They were all in the acceptance list for qualifying. I thought there were only 4 WC's, or has one or more of them withdrawn ?

They can't all have them - 4 at most. So at least one of them must have withdrawn. It's annoying that they don't put the WCs on the acceptance lists for women's ITFs any more, at least not until very late.

Well, fingers crossed, I hope to go and watch on Tuesday, weather and draw permitting (can't make it in time for the earliest matches)

Again, slight shame that there are two quali spots unfilled.

And, similarly, well done to players like Taro Keens, 19th on the ALT list, who turned up, inscribed and get their chance.....

Someone has been in France for too long wink Agree with the sentiments, of course!

Still no sign of any WCM's on the list. They were actually there pretty promptly for Woking, I am sure a fair time before the qualifying draw came out.

Beth has a WCM. It's my guess is that is  Maia who has withdrawn as she got a Woking WCM and none of the others did.

Thanks telstar for the info. Just have to wait and see on the others.
I'm surprised that there were two empty qualifying places with so many brits in the alts list.

Well here and overall the ranked players are certainly out in force. I make it that we will probably have 20 or 21 ( as said someone has withdrawn here ) of the top 25 in action.

Just Naomi, Tara, Mandy and Laura Sainsbury missing. I take it Laura is injured having not been seen for a while. Only her and Tara would have been any remaining likely possibles for here ( I see Tara is down for a 25K in Switzerland next week ).

Pity to see couple of byes in qualifying but a 25K may not entice non ranked players to go that extra step especially if not sure to get in. Essentially they would be down for a match against a seeded ranked player from the off and probably a seeded top 800 player in one of the two qualifying rounds.

As said before there is such a lack of home 15Ks and unfortunately when there was one was in in Ireland it clashed with county week. That lack is probably one reason that there is a decreasing number of our players with any ranking points at all and that in turn maybe gives less incentive to go for it in a home 25K compared to if a player already had bagged one or two counters.

It's that support the pyramid more thing again, especially in a country with so few other tennis opportunities outside ITFs for pretty decent but unranked or lowly ranked players. I am not sure seeing that the women had no souped up British tour alternative opportunity this weekend is any answer. The  problem is lack of opportunities.

You're not wrong smile

It's a problem that, having never played in the UK, all my tennis vocabulary is basically French - and the English words (whatever the heck they are) just don't come naturally (the translation for 'geste' gets me - 'swing' doesn't seem quite right - and what are 'appuis' ??? stance??? again, doesn't seem right).

Sorry !

PS Congrats to Olivia, that's a nice result, against a decent ranked player.

Yes, fine win.

Emily Appleton is serving at 3-6, *5-3.

The unranked players have been pretty summarily dismissed.
