Why is that a bold prediction Bob? Is there a scheduled monsoon coming, meaning no play until Thursday?

All this Vandendurg love is putting me off my tea and biscuits.

Keep him around for the entertainment but surely we shouldn't encourage him?

Me too!

I see it as a bit like allowing the publication of subversive literature like the Daily Mail and other types of hate preaching. This free speach business has to be allowed at the expense of mysogny and casual racism.

But I say that with a heavy heart!!

Things can go badly wrong threads hijacked... dunked biscuits lost... I speak with reference to "The campaign for iradication of the mention of the word "doubles" from threads unless specifically labelled as such.

I know at one point (unnamed sources at the Gruniard no less) specific instruction was contemplated with a view to replacing the word "doubles" with " Gooco" (game of optimal court occupation) thereby making all discussion of doubles appear nonsensical facilitating death of the game as the planet gets warmer due to increased weather extremes. It is with great relief that this issue has finally been put to bed .... along with errrr... discussion of the use of wildcards... and is generally stamped down on pretty quickly.

I like you feel that disruption of tea and biscuits is exactly where the line should be drawn. But will aptly have to leave it there as my wife has pooped the kettle on and there are some Garry Boldies in the cupboard with my name on!

Do you really have to start dragging up misogyny and racism, Oakland?

Posters attack Vandenburg, presumably to make themselves appear better by distinction. I percieve a bit of a gang has formed.

Holier than thou: it never leads anywhere better so why not let him be?

My problem with doubles is thought by a much in the tennis world, which  is why the doubles games has been struggling with viewing figures/interest for the last decade. It is like watching the 3rd division in UK football and pretending to yourself that this is the best quality in the world, when we all know the best doubles players, do not even play doubles, eg singles players.

Are you actually serious? A gang? I think out of 8 or so people to have commented most have supported Vandenburg. Please tell me how a 'gang' has formed therefore?

This is a forum where people are allowed to express their opinions. We still lived in a democracy last time I checked and therefore are allowed to express an opinion. Nothing that has been said is offensive or discriminatory.

If someone expresses an opinion which I disagree with I have the right to challenge it.

I find him funny but definitely in the holier than thou camp, warts and all. Definitely against gangs.

I disagree Vandy's posts have improved significantly with increased focus on tennis and many of his tennis related posts are extremely entertaining, sometimes thought provoking as they raise issues that others don't want to raise.

As to ignoring racism and misogyny, nope more of a visceral reaction than attempt to feel better about myself. I boycott head products and over spend buying Patagonia clothing and Acis footwear for that.

Do you? You must be the forum owner then.

Vandenburg is non-PC, plays it for laughs and draws you in like a moth to a flame. He evidently loves tennis too and has something to say.

For what it is worth, I find Vandenberg entertaining, generally, and cant ever get too riled - he does it to provoke a reaction and none of us need take it seriously. But if someone gives out a comment that is designed to get a rise from people, they clearly should expect and anticipate that some folks will want to comment/ have a go back. No harm in any of that; only crosses a boundary if it becomes insulting or derogatory.

All good stuff IMO, can choose to ignore but also can choose to comment when we wish, any of us

...and by the way, I had hoped Vandy would comment on my thread on Scandinavian Tennis in the general section, would be cool to get some insider input as my knowledge ran out quickly!

Agreed with everyone else that doubles is utter bobbins at any level below a 250 (and even it being at 250 level is no guarantee). Does make me howl with laughter when folk start incessantly pounding their chest with pride when someone like Isaac Stoute makes a Futures doubles semi off the back of a walkover followed by a clear tank.
