Week 25 - ITF ($100K) - lkley, Creat Britain Grass

So fair to think MD WCs for Harriet, Gabi, Freya and Maia.

I've been trying to craft a joke about Creat sponsoring Britain or something along those lines, but couldn't make it work. It feels harsh to pick fault with people who do the leg work to start threads, but seeing Creat Britain every day for a week would kill me.

Well, hope there may be a little more success here today than in the Birmingham qualifiers, but odds remain that that might be hard to do except for the one all GB match again. What all these 100k tournaments have done is mean that most British women's participation in the grass court season is limited to q1 losses. Might have been good if one or two tournaments were designed to ensure a little longer chance for participation other than those within the top 300 already, where at least there is a little more opportunity for winning 1 or 2 more matches.

Agree, Michael.

Moving the Surbiton up to a 100k was a negative, as far as I'm concerned.

But strategy seems to be very much focused on the top group of players. Which is understandable in some ways. And it has been quite successful for them. (Harriet, Gabi, Katy D etc. - all have had some very good results).

And this would be fine if there was some sort of set-up aimed at the third tier of players for the rest of the year. But there isn't.

And my view is that, without a decent pyramid, there can never be a successful, or even remotely self-sustaining, industry of tennis. But I guess we;ve been here before

Alicia won the first set 6-3 v Fran

Was down 0-3 in the second and there was then a lengthy MTO.

Now 0-5

Q1: BARNETT, Alicia (GBR) WC 1074 def JONES, Francesca (GBR) 1107 6-3 1-6 6-3
Q1: DEIGMAN, Laura (GBR) WC 977 lost to PAOLINI, Jasmine (ITA) 3 132 4-6 1-6

Q2: BARNETT, Alicia (GBR) WC 1074 v ANDREESCU, Bianca (CAN) 194 CH=188 17/4/17 17yo JCH=3

Alicia's Q2 opponent looks a bit of a challenge.

Laura R has indeed got a MD WC along with Gabi, Freya and Harriet. (No mention of Maia on the ILTSC twitter feed)

Hmm, so presumably that's in place of another previously intended WC.

Eden ended up losing 5 & 2

Omae served for the 1st set but Beth broke back and eventually took it 7-5 (also from behind) in the tiebreak
