RE: WTA Nottingham Entry List

The interesting conundrum is who will accept the other wildcard and qualifying wildcards and who will elect to play Manchester.
Freya is almost certain to play Nottingham probably as a QWC

Katie, Katie, Katy and Gaby all played Manchester last year with Naomi, whilst Laura played Nottingham with Tara.
I'm pretty sure Beth Grey will play Manchester qualifiers and get a doubles WC.
Money v points debate

Eden played Nottingham too, didn't  she?

Yes, Eden beat Khazhaniuk in QR1, before losing in QR2

Eden did play Nottingham: QWC, reached FQR

EWS played qualifying in Manchester, lost in FQR, got in as a lucky loser and gave the Kazahk girl a fright.

She's on the list under MD.
The tables are for where they ended as their best result - hence Sam Murray at Manchester is in MD as (Q) R32, as she qualified.
Emily didn't qualify, so that's why she's R32, not (Q) R32

I do have flags for LL, but didn't seek to be that rigorous about things here - I knew everyone would get included, but their exact full story at the LL/JE/SR level might get excluded. It should probably have said MD DA, MD WC, MD LL as a LL is not a DA, which is what my table implies.

This is just a consequence of the way I chose to build the table - for speed. I could have had both appear in both sections, but did not, and in no way made that clear. Sorry about that.

For the record: Emily played Q at Manchester, reached FQR, lost; got into R32 of MD as a LL; lost.

Why is Konta not on the list for Eastbourne?

This is a good question.
The answer is becasue I can't write a good formula and am generally incompetent.

Jo's final match at Eastbourne was technically her SF, in which she gave a walkover.
My table has a filter for 'valid match'. This is almost exclusively to not count things like Byes as wins in other tables and charts. I have not fully accounted for W/O with regards to 'validity'. Thus, applying the 'valid match' filter has ignored matches where the GB player gave a walkover, as the formula I have gives a Walkover as a 0 - do not include. This is only true where the GB player gives the w/o - if the opponent gives the w/o, the match would be included.
Therefore, the row with Jo's SF match is a 'do not include' and as it's her best round in the event, she is excluded altogether.

I didn't even actually need the 'valid match' filter in this particular case becasue of the way the table is built - I just defaulted to it through laziness. Useless.

WTA Nottingham Entry List - incorporating 2017 and 2018 comments

As per Indy's suggestion on another thread, I have changed the title of this one to cover and focus on the entry list.

As and when someone wants to create a thread when the draw comes out etc, then we can take the 2018 draw discussions from there.

Sorry for causing confusion - I still regard myself a newbie on this forum and haven't really delved into creating threads around tournaments before - I realise it is more difficult than I imagined! Oh well, gave it a go, practice makes perfect so will hopefully be a bit more efficient next time around!!

I see Stosur has got a WC for this. They can give a WC to top 20 players, but I assume that's current and not former? Be a bit disappointing if this isn't mandatory and could have been given to a Brit or even a younger, exciting overseas player. Seems a bit of a waste - I know she is a former grand slam winner, but she is 34, done little for years, actually has a losing record at Wimbledon and has never even been into the 2nd week - so its not exactly going to see ticket sales go through the roof.

Hope this isn't a sign of things to come over the summer.

Boulter has withdrawn from Manchester so I guess must be getting a WC here.

Swan is now into qualies on her ranking.
