Am I right in thinking that day 1 is normally men's QR1 day 2 Ladies QR1 and then Wednesday QR2 Thursday QR3?

I think they normally put some QR2 men's matches on the Tuesday after the women's.

Go see the players ranked 100-300 (or so) - And a couple of months later, one of them is into the last 8 of the US Open.

Yes and also well done, not quite so young Kanepi (also in last 8 of US but lost 2nd round of Wim qualifiers)!
