Week 18 - Nigeria F1 ($25,000) - Abuja (hard)

FQR:  Darryl Hale UNR vs BYE

FQR:  Joe Cooper UNR  vs BYE

so both Darryl & Joe qualify without hitting a ball in anger (16-man draw with three byes)!

As far as prospective fields go 25Ks ( and hard court ones at that for those averse to the dirt ) don't come more appealing than the three in a row being held in Nigeria.

Clearly the location has put many off going for a points trawl.

There's only 19 players in the MD with a world ranking. So assuming all WC recipients are also unranked then there should be 14 players without a ranking. A good draw and could be a great chance of a point and a ranking.

I assume Joe will also be playing doubles, though none of his usual partners appears to be on site.

What's the odds the two Brits draw each other?

Brilliant. A first round win in a 25K ? For Joe or Darryl? That would be an excellent result.

So, Joe, this is your chance - a first round draw in a 25K against a guy ranked 1200 or so (and who's never been more than 1000 or so) must be a dream chance.

Less luck for Darryl, drawn versus the 6th seed, now 453 and ex-288

Haha yeah I would get a by through to main now that I'm only focussing on doubles.. I entered singles to get a match to get used to conditions! Still, I play singles Monday and doubles Tuesday so should still help.

Should be playing with Matt Seeberger this week, but he is still stuck in USA waiting for his visa, so having to make a last minute change for the first one out here

Thanks for that, Joe.  Best of British in both, mate.

Our doublesman forumite is currently giving a good account of himself in the 25k in Nigeria - but has lost the first set 6-4.

Allez, Joe - we believe
