British Tour 2017

I notice Eleanor Dean is down for the 1st event of the 2017 cycle in Sheffield which takes place between Christmas and New Year.  Given her history with injuries always so pleased to see her name appear after any time away from the court.

Last British Tour event of 2016, in Sheffield, but seemingly counting for the 2017 tennis year:

(1) Manisha Foster def. (8) Meg Hopton 6-3 6-1

(7) Eleanor Dean def. Isabelle Hearnshaw 6-0 6-0

Eleanor has lost 5 games in 4 matches.

The happiest news so far is that she's made it through 4 matches in 2 days.

The final is going to be a step up in opposition. Will be interesting to see how she fares.

I will be even more interesting to see how she fares next week, when she is only 15th on the entry list !

Unless she is feeling the effects of 4 matches in two days, albeit none of them very challenging, she will win very comfortably.

If Manisha is fit and playing anywhere near her best she is a dogged competitor who generally makes you have to win each point. So this should indeed be a real step up and if Eleanor does beat her very comfortably it should be a very positive indicator.

Well Eleanor did win, looks like a tight match for the first two sets

Eleanor Dean [7] def. Manisha Foster [1/851] 3-6 7-6(1) 6-1

Certainly take that for now from Eleanor and finishing the week with that decisive final set against Manisha is good to see.

What I saw this week was a huge difference in quality, Manisha not much better than her opponents but Eleanor several levels above all. She seemed very relaxed about it all and quite laid back. Pleased she's making progress back albeit very early days.

Did you see the final Kenneth ?

Did Manisha raise her game ( near her best she should be much better than most of the rest there ) to then make it so close for the most part or what ?

Be good to have both Eleanor and Manisha in relatively good shape, but with scope to get better, particularly Eleanor.

Young Megan Forster also posted an impressive win over equally young Hannah McColgan who is only one counter off a WTA ranking.

I saw Megan play Olivia Elliot at Frinton back in July - both very promising girls.
