RE: Wimbledon Wildcards

Must be a fair chance just getting to the two play-off finals will be enough for Q WCs for the guys so the next matches may be the crucial ones.

Yes. I'm almost hoping they don't even make them play the semis.

Just give wildcards to the 4 semi-finalists and be done with it.

NB My understanding of the tax is just like Jaffa's - i.e. it's withheld at source and up to the player to claim it back against expenses on their tax return.

Josh S reporting a loss on Twitter, so I guess that Dan S has made the final round.

Not sure they're even playing them.

Which is what I'd wondered in passing previously - just give 4 wildcards.

But maybe they have and they've been quite quick.

Whatever, it seems like Dan Cox is through

Massive congrats to @DanCox90 who plays Gt to come through pre qualies. @Wimbledon qualies on Monday.

I guess Dan Cox no longer playing his apparently planned 10K clay futures in Romania next week

Seemingly Dan Cox only beat Jay Clarke by 7-5 6-3

Good effort, that, by Jay.

Yes good effort BY Jay but so pleased that Dan Cox is giving the tour another real go

And, don't know if if it applies to all four (presumably), or just Joe as losing semi-finalist, but it's being tweeted that Joe Salisbury was a semi-finalist, lost his semi, but has been given a QWC for Wimbly.

Gosling Tennis @GoslingtennisGB 4m4 minutes ago

He has never been happier after a loss. @joesalisbury92 semi final place at pre qualies secures him @Wimbledon qualifying WC

Which means Marcus Willis presumably has a wildcard for the Qualis too.

I don't know the scorelines, but from various tweets and Gosling answering a key question, it looks like Joe beat Josh and Marcus beat Jonny in the top half, then Marcus beat Joe but they both get QWCs.

Love watching Marcus play (and definitely can't blame him for having a go here!) but assuming he isn't coming back properly, I must admit I was hoping Jonny would win that R2 match.

Dan also gets a QWC after beating Jay.

The fact that both Marcus and Dan Cox have both been playing a lot of team tennis in France (and in the UK for Marcus - and Dan too??? Don't think so but might be wrong) means they're both still in good shape and posting good results against some good players.

Shows the virtue of team tennis.

I intend to "have a word" with Marcus at Wimbledon qualies. wink  Why did he make all that effort to get fit for the tour only to stop playing - assuming that is the case. I need him back in that top 500 as we are a bit light in that department at the moment.

Having said that, there was a comment made by Marcus around Feb (to Mike C I think) where he said he would not be back on the tour until June. So may be this is the start of a comeback.

And like others have said here, if there is a spare WC floating around, Jonny would be my choice.

Klein has been given a wild card for Nottingham (plays a qualifier in R1) so I think it is safe to assume that a main draw Wimbledon wild card is coming his way.
