Marcus is effectively the last ranking direct acceptance into the play-offs.

On the men's side only three above him have not signed in - Evan Hoyt, Cam Norrie and Scott Clayton.

Cam we had heard was bypassing the grass season, Scott seems to have other plans and hasn't involved himself in the grass season either and I am guessing the recently absent Evan is injured ?

Good to see Alex Ward get a Doubles WC as well from the point of view that financially he must be now guaranteed about 35k by my reckoning. Prize money links anyone to confirm? Think I ask this every year ha.

I've found the prize Money PDF. £30,000 for first round and £9,250 in doubles per pair. So £34625 for playing first rounds is nice work and will help pay for a years travelling on the circuit just about.

So pleased for Alex and this is a big part of it. For somebody at his level it's a huge financial boost and I couldn't be happier for him. And as ever, you never know what might happen in the MD. He'd be a big underdog against just about anyone but if the favourites won every time sport would be very boring!!

The good thing about Wimby WC playoffs, is there are no peskies to worry about. The bad thing about WImby WCs is there are no peskies to knockout. Two solid days of all GB matches. Who to support. That is the problem/question.

I'm SO conflicted with the bottom half. Smethers, Storrie and Sapwell are all faves for different reasons. And support and respect for the others too.

The grass argument, though, might be negated by the weather. I know they have indoors facilities scheduled for use if the weather is bad (as forecast for the afternoon, particularly later on).

Does anyone know if they use them straight off? Or push things back to Friday and try and play on grass and only use them as a last resort?

Alex is such a professional i couldn't be happier for him! I would prefer some the the young aspiring pro's to make it through for experience, as i do question a few of the others ambitions. But what a great few days tennis to look forward to!

I've checked & they did. Went out in the second round to Nestor & Qureshi (14). Seems I may have been worrying unnecessarily... wink
