John Inverdale is an utter crank. Saw him interview Aljaz the other day and the last few questions were about what football teams he supports and... if Slovenia and GB played each other who would he support? YOU JUST DON'T ASK THAT.

Sorry, rant over.

BTW Aljaz' answer was very diplomatic.

Was nice to see him win today thought he fully deserved it - Simon Briggs was right on five live - it's great to see him show such emotion.

The remainder of this tournament has in my view been hugely cheapened by the decision to make the players continue during WW1 conditions yesterday. They might as well have decided Radwanska v Pironkova by getting them to do push-ups.

Further moan: After mysteriously choosing to broadcast Serena v Svitolina, instead of 3 much more interesting match-ups; ITV4 is still discussing Serena's lunch plans as Bertens knocks out Keys; we're onto Djokovic's stringer being interviewed as Baczinsky disposes of Venus; and the chances of them showing the ding-dong battle between Carla and Putintseva are 0%, because Nole's about to resume his procession.

They miss out most of the drama of tennis, by relentlessly scheduling the top seeds every moment on court, which rarely involves any exciting matches.

Hear, hear on all fronts! Though Djokovic v RBA is at least a bit better than many such matches.

Maybe the ITV producers think that showing Novak and Serena, even if their matches aren't competitive, will appeal more to a broader audience - but the problem is that it's on ITV4 so anyone who is tuning in is going to be a big enough tennis fan to want to watch more than just the top seeds! I'm not sure BBC or Sky main coverage is much better but the key difference is the red button options to watch a range of different courts. The Eurosport coverage of the French Open is normally a bit better and to be fair to ITV they do a good job of showing the British players in the early rounds.

Hev is teaming up with Naomi for the whole of the grass court season, could be a very good combination.

With Kiki Bertens finally succumbing to Serena in the SF, Jo is confirmed as going to rise to another CH of WR 18

Yes, huge congrats to Johanna breaking into the top 20 biggrin; just 2 more places to go to match my prediction (which is starting to look to have been unduly pessimistic!)

Annabel Croft has now been surpassed for the first time since her best...Jo Durie the next in the sights, I think?!
