Week 17 - Great Britain F9 ($10,000) - Bournemouth (Clay)

Marcus, Brydan, Liam, Josh Milton & Luke should all be seeded in the main draw (barring any high-ranked WCs), with Rob Carter, Jack Carpenter, Toby Martin, Jonny O'Mara, Jathan Malik and 4 wild cards (based on the entry list, I'd guess Sam Hutt and Evan Hoyt will be 2 of them) also in the main draw. Lewis would have got in too had he entered.

All GBR and/or UNR unless otherwise stated:

QR1 - 1: Mihail Vorobiev v Jake Horton
QR1: Luke Henley v Peter Bothwell (IRL)

QR2: (q1) Lewis Burton WR 804 v Samuel Edwards
QR2: James Ryan v winner of QR1 - 1
QR2: (q2) Myles Orton WR 1160 v Philip Sikman - winner to play (q15) Pavel Nejedly (CZE) WR 2163 or Owen Kirk (IRL)
QR2: Paul Midgley v (q3) Nicolas Rosenzweig (FRA) WR 1162
QR2: (q11) Nicholas Jones WR 1828 v Piers Farhang
QR2: David Addawoo v (q4) Jannis Liniger (SUI) WR 1265
QR2: (q12) Mark Whitehouse WR 2027 v Christopher Morrow
QR2: Curtis Clarke v (q5) Jake Eames (AUS) WR 1288
QR2: (q14) Ryan Peniston WR 2083 v Patrick Eichenberger (SUI)
QR2: (q6) Adam Thornton-Brown WR 1366 v Sam Bayda
QR2: (q13) Aaron Banasik WR 2083 v George Davies
QR2: (q7) Keelan Oakley WR 1546 v Raphaël Stucker (SUI)
QR2: (q9) Tom Allen WR 1678 v Karl Grossey

I wonder why the women are not playing Bournemouth this year. Bournemouth is one of the few tournaments within 60 miles of where I live, I got some good photographs there last year.

a quirky fact from Soto:

#‎realitiesoftennis‬

One of our guys did not get into Nottingham Grade 4 ITF U18 as the draw was full yet if he signed in (without entering) down the road in Bournemouth Futures (Professional event!) he would be playing in Qualifying tomorrow.

Don't try to fight the weird and wonderful world if tennis! Embrace it uniqueness!

A very good question, Peter, without particularly wanting to again rake over the lack of opportunities given at 10K level in this country for our girls.

Yep. No clay tournaments for the women this year as Edinburgh seems to have gone too

I have been at the Edinburgh event over several years and the standard in the women's tournament was dropping each year. To play 2 clay court tournaments in the calendar
Bournemouth and Edinburgh is a waste I think. Either they increase the number of tournaments on clay or scrap them as many players opt out of clay

Last year 22 GB girls entered the Q event at Bournemouth of which 4 qualified and joined 10 other GB girls in the main event. We had two seeds the number 1 seed and winner Jade Windley and Lucy Brown 8. So it was well supported by the GB girls and provided 6 non-GB seeds for them to test themselves against.

Anyway, hardly seems to be the way to make our girls any better on clay, an important ( and good development ) surface in the game, to reduce / do away with such events for our women.

Don't worry, they can have a good swish on grass soon !

And more generally, after Gloucester gave many some decent competitive 10K opportunities ( if less successfuly than we would have hoped for ), some follow ups would have been welcome.

You sum up one of the problems around our failure to develop world-class players. Far easier to bash a ball around on hard courts spraying errors everywhere than develop consistency and resilience on clay. We need more tournaments on clay, not fewer.

Seems like they are playing in Bournemouth. Wins for Adam TB, Keelan Oakley and Jake Horton, but Peter Ashley was comfortably beaten.
